Bunk-bedsNestled in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, at the end of a long driveway, Oak Cottage is based within the grounds of Swainstone Manor and provides one of the most peaceful settings for the perfect holiday. With beautiful rolling countryside from every angle, sitting back and relaxing in your own enclosed garden is a must, and guarantees to relieve you from the day-to-day chaos.
Oak Cottage is one of five properties situated in this little piece of heaven, so although you are off the beaten track, a friendly face is only across the courtyard. The cottage is a lovingly furnished, home-from-home barn conversion, making it a welcoming retreat to return to after a long day exploring the many gems of the South Hams.
You are really spoilt in this location, from golden sandy beaches and coves within a short drive to the glamour and action in the city of Plymouth and the infamous 'moors'. Oak Cottage perches on the southwest tip of Dartmoor, making a day of adventure in this beautiful moorland a 'must do' day out for the family.
A day or three spent on one of the many breathtaking beaches cannot be missed. Within eight miles you have the golden sands of Mothecombe Beach, the sheltered cove beach of Challaborough, and the beautiful Bigbury-on-Sea beach which offers action, relaxation and romance, especially if you take a trip to the simply stunning Burgh Island - leave it until the tide has come in and your sea taxi awaits to take you over to the island. What a fabulous way to make some really special holiday memories!
Teeming with characterful cafes, restaurants and pubs the location of Oak Cottage offers everything you could need within a short drive from the property. Ivybridge is a friendly town with a scattering of characterful and welcoming pubs nearby, however being only a short drive from the A38, Oak Cottage provides you with a fabulous base to explore the wider charms of south Devon should you wish to venture further afield.
South Devon boasts some of the most charming villages and towns, all with their own culture, character and attraction - Dartmouth, Totnes, Salcombe and Kingsbridge to mention a few. Your drive through this fabulous area will be breathtaking, taking in the unspoilt rolling countryside, or the amazing views from the coastline, any day trip is always a pleasure.
There is simply too much to do in the surrounding areas. For adrenalin junkies there is wind surfing, kite surfing or body boarding readily available, or for those who just fancy a stroll along the south Devon coast path, your views will be unrivalled and unforgettable. Dartmoor and all the wonders it has to offer is a very special area to visit. Pack up a picnic, park the car in one of the many parking spaces offered across the moor roads, sit back and watch the world and local residents pass by. Dartmoor is famous for its wealth of roaming ponies and sheep, which are all ready and waiting to give you a big Dartmoor welcome, especially if you have food!
Maybe a spot of shopping, followed by a top notch restaurant ticks your boxes? If so, easy connection can be made to Plymouth and the Barbican which is alive with restaurants, cafes and wine bars; not forgetting the Hoe or the waterfront which is a delightful place to sit back and let the world pass you by.
We could go on forever as to the activities and the 'must see' attractions; however you really need to sample these delights for yourself to truly appreciate them.
