This gorgeous cottage is a wonderfully comfortable bolthole, set in an idyllic rural hamlet and surrounded by walks, horse-riding and cycle trails. Kingfisher Cottage (named because these elusive birds are frequent visitors to the nearby stream) is a single-storey barn conversion with level access from the parking-area and just a few steps inside.
It is found in the picturesque hamlet of Herodsfoot, less than five miles from the beautiful coastline and beaches around Looe and Polperro. Deerpark Forest is on the doorstep, the perfect place for dog walking, off-road cycling and nature watching, teeming with birds and wildlife of all kinds.
Lovingly and impeccably presented, Kingfisher Cottage offers the best of both worlds with superfast fibre broadband, Smart TVs and Netflix mixed with Farrow & Ball paints and touches of beautiful vintage style. The cottage is set in the Owner's grounds (they have 38 acres of beautifully maintained woodland and paddocks) but after welcoming you to the cottage, they will leave you in peace to enjoy the tranquillity of the setting.
Soft, thick wool rugs soften the lovely slate floors of this cottage and the open plan living-room has comfortable sofas set around an original inglenook fireplace complete with a warming wood-burner (the hospitable Owners provide free logs). A Smart TV offers Netflix for catch-up TV, films and children's programmes on demand; making family film evenings in front of the fire a relaxing holiday treat. The kitchen-area is fully equipped so holiday catering is a doddle (when not eating out in one of the nearby pubs!).
On one side of the living-room, three steps lead up to the master bedroom which has a king-size bed with a super-comfy mattress and beautiful linens, a walk-in wardrobe and en suite bathroom with both bath and fitted shower. On the opposite side of the living-room, giving a degree of privacy between the two, a couple of steps lead down to the second bedroom which has twin beds and an en suite shower-room with double-size walk-in shower and rainfall shower head, perfect for soothing aching muscles after a day's strenuous walking or cycling. Both bedrooms have Smart TVs with Netflix, so you can relax in bed with a feel-good movie.
Outside, the big, level, south-facing lawn is bordered by the parking-area on one side and a bank down to a stream on the other.
The Forestry Commission operates a holiday lodge complex at Deerpark Forest just ten minutes' walk away, with a well-stocked shop and bar/cafe, which locals and visitors are very welcome to use; guided nature walks and other activities are also available to all.
The Plough is a popular foodie pub in the small village of Duloe, which is less than two miles away and home to a friendly community shop too.
Slightly further afield, the Old Ferry Inn in Bodinnick has a French chef offering excellent food, with wonderful views from its outdoor deck across the river to Fowey. Perfect for walkers and explorers, this lovely location is equally suited to gardeners, water sports enthusiasts and those who just like to potter: there are shark fishing trips from Looe, boat trips along the coast, a private picnic lunch available from Fowey, water sports tuition at tiny Polkerris, antiques and vintage shops in the ancient Cornish capital of Lostwithiel, famed Cornish gardens and the renowned Duchy Nursery and the amazing Eden Project to delight plant enthusiasts.
