The School House is incredibly special and the perfect retreat for those who want to get away from it all and completely unwind and relax. Originally the village school, The School House is now a house of two halves, one historic and one contemporary, that seamlessly blend together to create a very unique and unforgettably special place.

Situated in the tiny rural hamlet of Coryton, close to the village church, with spectacular views of the rolling Devon countryside, the style inside is deliciously classic and incredibly welcoming with squishy sofas, tiled floors, open fires, treasured antiques and cosy lighting.

What was originally the infant's classroom, the sociable kitchen with its walnut carved table, warming Aga and fabulous countryside views, is sure to become the focal point of your holiday, where lazy breakfasts and leisurely dinners are to be enjoyed.

Afterwards retire to the large drawing-room, to enjoy a good book in front of the fire or maybe partake in some home-made musical entertainment with the choice of instruments provided. The School House accepts children aged eight and over, and babes in arms under the age of six months.

A second sitting-room in the modern extension with wooden floors, open fire and vaulted ceiling, is wonderfully light and airy and provides an alternative choice for further relaxation.

All bathrooms have under-floor heating. The stylish family bathroom and two of the delightful bedrooms, one with en suite, lead off from the sitting-room and the third bedroom sits above the drawing-room with its own deluxe en suite cast iron bath and corner shower cubicle.

Outside the magic continues with almost an acre of garden that complements both the house and the surrounding countryside. Mealtimes can be enjoyed under the vine covered arbour or venture into the 'secret garden' with its three large terraces that take full advantage of the beautiful views across the valley. Listen out for the birdsong and the sounds of the countryside or just sit back, relax and watch the sun set at the end of a perfect day. Have you started to relax yet?

With such a special setting you may not want to stray far but there are delights to discover both in Devon and just over the border in Cornwall. Majestic Dartmoor is a walker's paradise with stunning views, rugged wide open spaces and iconic granite tors on offer or stroll around the beautiful gardens of Cotehele and The Garden House and the castles of Lydford and Launceston.

Grand designs of bygone days are aplenty with Buckland Abbey, Castle Drogo and Lanhydrock House to name but a few and the coasts beckon with surfers riding the waves at Bude, Widemouth Bay and Polzeath on the north and maritime history galore on the south. Riding on Dartmoor, biking the many cycle routes, golf, clay pigeon shooting and fishing are among the many outdoor activities.

The market towns of Launceston and Tavistock offer independent shopping and the local village of Lifton has a choice of places to eat out and a terrific farm shop where you can stock up on all your essential culinary supplies. If you can't manage it all in one visit there will be a chance to do it when you return to The School House which you are sure to do, again and again and again!
