Enjoy a holiday with a difference, relax under canvas and soak up the peace and tranquility of the rolling Dorset countryside, with luxury en suite facilities, glamping style. Black Pig Retreats is part of Bittles Brook Farm, on the outskirts of the village of Motcombe, where you leave your car in the car park and wheelbarrow your luggage over the little bridge to your canvas retreat! Nestled beside a little brook in a sheltered meadow, Mukota is a spacious safari tent sleeping four with an earthy African theme, surrounded by greenery. The south-facing deck looks out across the large meadow to a woodland trail that takes you around the farm and into the village. This colourful tent sleeps four very comfortably in a king-size double bed and twin beds. The cosy wood-fired range keeps the tent toasty warm out-of-season and the kitchen is well-equipped with a two-ring gas hob, sink with plenty of hot water and a fridge/freezer for those holiday luxuries. The quirky en suite facilities are in a sturdy horse-box at the back of the tent accessed via an enclosed walkway, fully insulated the horse-box contains a double shower, wash-basin, flushing WC and heated towel rail. Mukota takes its name from a breed of indigenous domestic pig from the Mukota region of north-eastern Zimbabwe and shares the meadow with a delightful 'Straw House' built with straw bales and timber clad. This charming building is equipped with games, books and useful information about the area; tables and seating for twenty allow groups to dine together if they wish. This building is shared with two further safari tents (in a higher meadow), Murciano and Gascon, which each sleep six.
Beauty the Large Black pig is the inspiration for Black Pig Retreats, she is the centrepiece of this small holding; you may also encounter the Owners' dogs, horses, chickens and sheep, all of the animals are in a separate area, away from your luxury tent. The meadow in front of Mukota has plenty of space for energetic games or kite flying and you can bring your dog on holiday to join in the fun too, but please ensure that it is kept under control and please supervise your children at all times, particularly around the brook and pond areas. You can walk beside the brook to the village shop and pub about a twenty minute walk along tracks and lanes. If you can tear yourself away from this rural idyll, this is a great base from which to explore Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset, being close to the border of all three counties. The impressive Jurassic Coast is a one hour drive away as are the sandy beaches of Weymouth and Sandbanks. The New Forest National Park is a great place for cycling through the woodlands, take your own bikes or hire them from several village locations. Longleat is a short drive away, as is the National Trust's Stourhead House and Gardens; forty minutes in the car will take you to magnificent Stonehenge or the Cathedral City of Salisbury, and the beautiful Georgian City of Bath is a one hour drive. In order to minimise the impact upon this tranquil landscape, electricity is available for lighting, the fridge and charging a mobile device. Mobile phone reception is limited, although EE 4G is available at the top of the farm. Lakemead Boarding Kennels are near to Black Pig Retreats in Frog Lane; you may be able to arrange day care if you wanted a dog-free day out during your holiday.
