In the tranquil countryside inland from the east Devon Jurassic Coast, lies this lovely and secluded detached farmhouse. It sits within its own idyllic six acre grounds comprising lawned gardens and fields all nestled within the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The grounds feature a large renovated games barn with pool table and table-tennis. There is also a treehouse, zip wire, trampoline, tree swing and even an outdoor boules court. This is an excellent family choice offering spacious and very well arranged accommodation and extensive outdoor leisure facilities. There is a huge farmhouse kitchen/dining-room complete with a wonderful double Aga, a classic farmhouse table, small sofa and wood-burner. Hussey's Farm offers truly flexible accommodation. Two living-rooms each have wood-burners, and there is a snug for children with table and chairs and shelves full of games and books. One bedroom and a shower-room are downstairs, and four further bedrooms and two bathrooms are upstairs.
Hussey’s Farm is just outside the tiny hamlet of Millhayes in a sunny south-facing position with a huge terrace for summer breakfasts or evening drinks – with two sunken fire-pits. This traditional farmhouse has a fabulous kitchen extension which is glass fronted with high beams creating the most sociable of holiday living spaces. The extensive gardens wrap around the farmhouse on two sides providing a wonderful environment for children to explore. The separate games-room has a pool table and table-tennis, and next to it is a pretty tree-lined boules area and a trampoline. As if this is not enough there is an outside kitchen on a raised deck, with a wood-fired pizza oven and a large covered barbecue. There is a great picnic field beyond and for the very adventurous at the top of the field there is a wooden tree house with a long zip wire – great fun but please always supervise children when using this. Back inside the farmhouse, as well as the open plan kitchen/dining-room, there are two further living-rooms – both of which have wood-burners – and one with the TV and DVD player. For younger children there is a snug just off one of the living-rooms, with a table for games, jigsaws and drawing. One of the double bedrooms is on the ground floor and across the hallway there is a convenient separate wet-room style shower-room. On the first floor there are four further double bedrooms and two bathrooms. Three of these bedrooms have very high quality truckle beds so that you have the flexibility of having the bedrooms set up as singles, twins or of course you are welcome to push them together, although please note that the bedding is for single beds not doubles. For groups of 10, you are advised to shower and run the baths at different times so that the hot water tank has time to refill and reheat. The baths are very deep and can use up the hot water supply very quickly. This is an excellent location for a holiday, easy to reach from the main A303/A30 into east and south Devon and just a short drive inland from some wonderful unspoilt beaches. Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton are traditional seaside towns with Jurassic pebbled beaches. Exmouth has miles of sandy beaches. A little further to the east but within very easy reach is Lyme Regis just on the east Devon/Dorset border. Just up the road is an excellent farm shop and cafe, Royal Oak, for some lovely local produce to bring back to cook up a feast in the spectacular kitchen; another well-known farm shop and cafe is called Millers, less than ten minutes’ drive away. If you want to go out for a treat there is a renowned pub at Dalwood, five miles away – booking is essential.
