Tavistock, a lovely moorland market town with an eclectic mix of shops, pubs and restaurants, also boasts an interesting daily Pannier market. Holly Cottage, built in the style known as a Duke of Bedford cottage, is a cosy Grade II Listed terraced property on the edge of the town and within walking distance of Dartmoor. There is a small sheltered patio at the back of the property where no doubt you will sit and relax with a glass of wine in the evenings after a day's exploring the wilds of the moors and visiting the nearby pretty little Dartmoor villages. With full central heating and a warming wood-burner in the sitting-room, Holly Cottage is a delight whatever the time of year.
There are two pretty bedrooms upstairs which makes the cottage ideal for either a small family or couples wanting to explore this lovely part of Devon. With the town on your doorstep, you will be able to leave the car and stroll into town where you are spoilt for choice for restaurants and cafes. The Pannier market is a delight, often with local produce on sale – the lemon drizzle cake on the WI stall is a must! If wanting a different day out Plymouth is a short drive away and it's worth exploring the old part of the city round the Barbican where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America. There are some gorgeous National Trust properties within easy distance – Buckland Abbey, the former home of Sir Francis Drake, is close by and Cotehele and Lanhydrock, both just into Cornwall, are also well worth a visit. Tavistock is equidistant from the beaches of the north and south coasts.
