Ashley's Shack

3008

6.2 miles W of Dartmouth / Sleeps 2 + cot*

7 Nights from £331 - £624

Walk the little path through the three acres of the Owners' grounds and woods and there you'll find Ashley's Shack. Up above a large lake covered in water lilies in the summer months, this is a delightful little cabin. Painted in a pretty pale blue inside with its own sheltered patio and views over the lake it is a really cosy retreat. Inside is just charming with a large comfy bed strewn with gorgeous bed linens, throws and cushions. A wood-burner throws out the heat on cooler evenings and there is a little galley kitchen as well as a small but perfectly formed shower-room. Quite charming and just the spot for a truly romantic retreat. You have your own sheltered patio with a barbecue and table and chairs - lovely for an evening drink or meal on a summer's night. The Owners even provide a lovely box of locally-made goodies, including their own home-made honey and local cheeses. You may well decide just to stay put, soaking up the sounds of the dawn chorus in the early morning and the owls to-whit ta-whooing across the woods in the evenings. With little or no light pollution the stars can be amazing, however we would recommend bringing a torch as the walk up to Ashley's Shack from the car park can be quite dark if there's no moon. Be sure to also bring some bird books and possibly something on the stars, as you will no doubt consult them both. Found on the main road between Totnes, with its interesting Friday morning market and eco-friendly shopping centre, and Dartmouth, with its proud naval tradition, this is a fantastic spot. There can be some road noise but the site is just so gorgeous we have no doubt you will be enchanted. There are some great beaches and coves to explore in the South Hams, not least Blackpool Sands - one of Devon's loveliest beaches - which is just a short drive. So do your exploring during the day knowing you will return to this wonderful spot in the evening to unwind and relax. On arrival don't worry about dragging your luggage along the path, the Owners provide a tractor to carry all your supplies up to this lovely cabin. Poppy Yurt (2720) is found elsewhere on the same site but you will be quite private. This is a real piece of rural heaven and perfect for a truly relaxing break.
