This gorgeous Victorian cottage is an absolute delight; updated with gentle sympathy to offer the modern necessities of central heating, drench-head shower and a granite-topped kitchen. Wonderfully welcoming, beautifully decorated and tucked away in a little lane just yards from Fowey’s bustling centre, the peace of the setting is an unexpected bonus.
The shops, restaurants, art galleries and harbourside delights of this ancient fishing town and yacht-lovers heaven are just a minute’s walk away; perfect for popping out for meals, boat trips or a leisurely wander through the narrow streets to window shop or indulge in a spot of well-earned retail therapy. Sandy beaches, coastal footpaths and secret coves are all on hand in this enchanting area of outstanding natural beauty.
Painted throughout in the gentle hues of Farrow and Ball, 2 Browns Hill is a light-filled terraced cottage which offers a lovely holiday home to families, friends and couples. The ground floor has a spacious sitting/dining-room with comfortable seating and a gas-fired stove to fend off any unseasonal chills (all the benefits of a wood-burner without the effort and mess!).
There is a galley kitchen to one side and a tiny enclosed south-facing courtyard; a lovely place to sit in the sun with a morning coffee or lunchtime snack. A small heated outhouse has a washing machine/drier and drying rack for beach towels and wetsuits, perfect after a day spent at sandy Readymoney Cove nearby. Steep cottage stairs lead up to the first floor (take care with little ones on the stairs). The master bedroom has a bespoke painted king-size bed and the surprisingly spacious bathroom has both a bath and a large walk-in shower cubicle with drench-head shower. Another flight of narrow stairs leads up to the second bedroom with standard size twin beds and an additional 2'6" day bed with a fully sprung mattress but probably best for children only.
Fowey is a delightfully picturesque little town with ancient fishermen’s cottages, narrow streets and hundreds of yachts bobbing on their moorings; with Regatta Weeks, the Fowey Festival of Words and Music, Fowey River Big Gig and BBQ Weekend and Christmas Markets, there is plenty on offer for entertainment. The secluded yet central location of 2 Browns Hill is ideal for those who don’t want to do much driving, with all the town’s facilities on hand and ferries across to Polruan, Mevagissey and Bodinnick. With Par station (on the Paddington to Penzance main line) only four miles away, it’s even possible to pop down by train and leave the car at home.
If you are driving, beautiful St Fimbarrus Church (with its tall steeple and chiming clock) is a stately neighbour and its little square provides space to off load children and luggage (once you've collected the key to remove the parking bollard) before popping the car in the town car park just up the hill. Ideal for families and friends, 2 Browns Hill is also available out of the main season at a discounted rate for couples using Bedroom 1 only.
