What a great base for a family holiday or an escape with friends. With panoramic views over unspoilt countryside, a pretty village setting, the Tarka Cycle Trail half a mile down the road and a short drive to some of north Devon's best sandy beaches, Wedlands Farmhouse is an excellent choice. This welcoming spacious farmhouse has a large level garden and a lovely paddock – all completely fenced, so perfect for children to run around and play and escape-proof for dogs – while the grown-ups relax on the patio with a glass of wine. Children will love the space, adults will love the sociable kitchen for lazy breakfasts and evenings of food and conversation, and the faithful family dog will adore the paddock!
This is a house to suit all ages, extended families, and friends wanting to celebrate a special occasion. The kitchen/dining-room is a real treat and with a classic farmhouse table at its heart and flagstones with under-floor heating to add character and warmth, this is the perfect place to start and end the day. The Aga is a bonus out-of-season but will be turned off from May to October. The sitting-room has a wood-burning stove and there is even an inner hall with a piano. Upstairs there are four really good-sized bedrooms, a bathroom and shower-room. Many period farmhouses are filled with character but a bit dark – this one has the best of both worlds – plenty of lovely features and filled with light. Torrington is the nearest little town for shops and local amenities. There is also a lovely Arts Centre, showing films, and cafe which is well worth a visit. A little further afield in Bideford, you can wander along the historic quay and even take a day boat trip out to Lundy Island. North Devon is also famous for its coastline – a mixture of rocky coves and little fishing villages such as Clovelly and Appledore, and wide open surfing beaches such as Westward Ho!, Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe. Summer speaks for itself and on a wild and wintery day, a long bracing walk along the sand will re-charge your batteries and make your return to this lovely farmhouse all the better.
