Less than three miles from beautiful Talland Bay and the historic fishing village of Polperro, this gorgeous Grade II Listed, 17th Century farmhouse is a truly wonderful holiday base for those who love luxury and elegant style. Beamed ceilings, sash windows and exposed stone walls are reminders of a bygone age, and the two separate staircases provide ample opportunity for chasing impish children around in circles! Approached along its own private drive, Cardwen Farmhouse has extensive lawns and a patio-area looking out over a shallow pool which is edged with majestic gunnera and water reeds. The stunning coastline will surely beckon, with beaches and the coastal footpath within easy reach, and shark fishing trips from nearby Looe.
The big limestone-floored kitchen/dining-room is the heart of the house and a lovely gathering place, with the kitchen-area equipped with granite work surfaces, colour-changing spotlights, an electric range cooker and all the cooking equipment you could need. The dining-area has a sturdy farmhouse table and windows looking out to the sheltered rear courtyard and gardens. The drawing-room is wonderfully elegant with velvet sofas and a massive inglenook fireplace with a chunky electric wood-burner effect stove (all the benefits of a wood-burner without the work and mess!). With four double bedrooms, two en suite shower-rooms, a family bathroom and a separate cloakroom there will be no queues in the mornings so you'll soon be ready to head off and explore. The beautifully landscaped grounds, over two acres in total, are abundantly planted and include over 60 varieties of camellia as well as many different rhododendrons, azaleas and shrubs and several lawned areas, and are shared with neighbouring Cardwen Cottage (977), Benson's Cottage (978) and Bay Tree Cottage (2331), all approached by a second driveway giving Cardwen Farmhouse its own privacy. Gorgeous Talland Bay is a short drive away, with sandy beaches and rockpools. The nearby hamlet of Porthallow has two beach cafes (one offering evening barbecues during the summer months) and a thriving hotel providing both brasserie and fine dining menus. This is a gloriously unspoiled part of Cornwall with so much going on throughout the year; there are several renowned Cornish gardens nearby and art lovers will enjoy the Looe Music Festival, the Fowey Festival of Words and Music and Port Eliot Literary Festival.
