The Gatehouse is a beautiful single-storey detached cottage offering accommodation for families and couples, set in a tranquil countryside location between Falmouth and Truro.

There is level access from the parking-area into an open plan living-room where industrial lamps hang low and massive exposed beams in the high apex ceiling give a light and spacious feel. French doors open onto a terrace running the length of the cottage, where a private bubbling hot tub is set to look out over lawns and an orchard, with a sunken path leading to the shared indoor swimming pool beyond (you can book a 1.5 hour session per day, and the system is explained in the property).

Part of The Emerald – an award-winning eco development – the surrounding five acres houses five eco holiday homes together with a shared gym and woodland walks and a pretty ornamental lake. There is also a tennis court with all-level coaching available from an experienced national level player/coach (please book on-site on arrival). In addition, there is a dreamy new spa room offering CACI treatments which work to plump and tone the skin, as well as a bespoke massage service, both can be booked in advance of your stay. There are restaurants, shops and galleries five miles away in Falmouth or Truro and the superb north coast surfing beaches are just 20 minutes by car.

The Gatehouse exudes quality as soon as you walk into the open plan living-room, where limestone flooring has under-floor heating in the kitchen-area, granite work surfaces shine, and there is a big island kitchen unit. There is also an espresso machine, so bring your favourite pods with you. There are comfortable sofas, a Smart TV with Netflix, and an iPod dock for streaming music throughout the cottage.

The main bedroom has a super-king size bed and an en suite shower-room with under-floor heating and a walk-in drench-head shower, with doors out to the hot tub on the south-facing terrace. The second bedroom has 'zip and link' beds offering flexible accommodation, so ideal for both a couple or two sleeping separately. The family bathroom has under-floor heating and a luxurious double-ended claw-foot bath.

The Gatehouse is perfect for couples and families alike, and being close to the pool-house and gym will appeal to those who like active holidays.

Within the five acres of shared grounds is a solar farm which generates all the energy The Emerald needs. This award-winning development is the only truly zero carbon holiday destination in the country having been awarded Code 6 status, the highest possible grading for eco efficiency. There is also a useful Tesla charging point for electric cars at The Emerald (please bring your own adaptor for other makes). The owners politely ask that you state on arrival if you plan to take advantage of this service and to pay them via cash or bank transfer before departure.

The Gatehouse is a cottage-style property, set slightly apart from the hi-spec, super-insulated cedar-clad properties Fern (2825) and its semi-detached mirror-image Cedar (2824) for couples, Coast (2822) and Drift (2823) both accommodating six. The other properties are all accessible for wheelchairs, with level thresholds, ground floor bedrooms and double-width walk-in showers.
