This peaceful detached cottage, on the edge of a beautiful south Somerset village, is the perfect base for exploring this historic county or for popping over the border into Dorset and heading for the Jurassic Coast. Scrumpy Cottage has been completely refurbished and offers an ideal balance between the warmth and character of a period property with a contemporary makeover. There are some low beams and lintels, but the cottage is filled with light. French windows open onto a very private, sheltered and enclosed courtyard garden, a south-facing sun-trap for lazy summer days. Inside, the comfortable furnishings and wood-burner make this cottage excellent for out-of-season escapes to the country – especially as the local pub is just around the corner!
In the centre of the village Perry’s Cider Farm shop and visitor centre offers a range of local treats – not to mention cider tasting from the wonderful orchards for which this area is famous. The footpaths and gentle lanes are ideal for those who love walking. This part of south Somerset has a number of wonderful National Trust houses to visit as well – all fairly close together and so you can plan an excellent full day of visits – Montacute, Barrington Court, Lytes Cary and Tintinhull are the nearest. Nearby Ilminster is a delightful market town with a range of traditional shops as well as the historic Minster to visit.
