Topsails is a welcoming bolthole a stone's throw from the unspoilt pebbled beach at Beer, a traditional fishing village in a sheltered bay on the beautiful east Devon World Heritage Jurassic Coast. The village of Beer is charming and was a finalist for the best kept village in 2018. An internal staircase leads to this little second floor retreat, with its cheerful seaside theme, light and airy open plan kitchen/diner, cosy sitting-room and pretty double bedroom. The charm of this place is truly timeless, as are the other seaside towns and villages that stretch along this stunning coastline in both directions. The lovely beach has a popular seasonal cafe, classic striped deckchairs to hire, painted beach huts, historic lug sail boats and a fresh fish stall.
Back in the little town, there are galleries and gift shops to browse in, and a great choice of places to eat. A bit further afield try the Hix Oyster & Fish House overlooking the Cobb in Lyme Regis or the River Cottage Canteen in Axminster. You might even like to book yourself onto a mini-course at River Cottage HQ. If you want to leave the car, you can take a bus ride all along the Jurassic Coast – get a bird's eye view of the coast from the top deck. As well as being close to the Dorset border, it is an easy drive into south Somerset for a great choice of National Trust houses to visit – Montacute, Barrington Court and Lytes Carey are all within a stone's throw of each other.
