With cosy under-floor heating and a warm welcome, Higher Manhay Barn perfectly typifies the expression ‘good things come in small packages’. This gorgeous little detached granite cottage stands across the cobbled driveway from the owner’s representative's beautiful old farmhouse, 15 minutes’ stroll up the hill from Wendron’s friendly village pub.
Surrounded by fields where on clear days Mount’s Bay is visible sparkling in the distance, and with a private patio and garden a few yards from the front door, this peaceful retreat is ideal for couples or small families.
Inside, soft green woodwork features throughout, with colourful rugs covering the pine floorboards; the living-room upstairs has striking granite worktops in the compact kitchen, and two comfortable sofas facing a contemporary wood-burner.
There are numerous footpaths to explore in the area, and both the historic town of Helston and Porthleven – with its picturesque harbour and quayside shops, pubs and restaurants – are a few minutes away by car. Slightly further afield but within easy driving distance are the towns of Falmouth and Truro and the beautiful Lizard peninsula.
The bustling harbour town of St Ives and the north coast’s famed surfing beaches are no more than half an hour away and if you want to bring your own bikes, surfboards or kayaks, the owners can offer you secure storage on site.
