Part of a very large traditional country house Butterwell House is the perfect place for family gatherings, celebrations and out-of-season escapes. There are seaside towns and picturesque fishing villages, beaches and coastal footpaths nearby and easy access to National Trust properties and lovely Cornish gardens. Butterwell House is extremely spacious with big rooms, high ceilings and tall sash windows. The ground floor bedroom and three further bedrooms upstairs share four bath or shower rooms. The big sitting/dining-room has sofas facing a large wood-burner and windows looking out over the private garden to the rear. Set on a family-run working farm, guests are welcome to watch the milking, help feed the animals and meet Toby and Sky the friendly farm dogs.
Butterwell House has an exceptionally well-equipped kitchen/breakfast-room with everything you need to cater for large family meals. The sitting/dining-room is always cosy with the big, efficient wood-burner a lovely focal point on colder days (there is also full central heating). The utility-room has a separate cloakroom and space for storing wetsuits, walking boots, buckets and spades. There are four large bedrooms, one with its own sitting-area and two with en suite facilities, plus a family bathroom and shower-room. Perfect for walkers, garden and beach enthusiasts, this is a lovely area to explore, with the Forestry Commission's Herodsfoot Woods nearby, where deer roam freely and there are plenty of well-kept footpaths to walk or cycle. The fishing port of Looe, the ancient smugglers' haunt of Polperro and the sailing waters of Fowey are all easy to reach on the nearby coast, while garden enthusiasts and walkers will love Lanhydrock, Heligan, the Eden Project and Mount Edgcumbe. Lovely beaches at Talland Bay and Whitsand Bay are great for swimming, sunbathing and sandcastle-building, with boat and surfboard hire available at Downderry. Little Butterwell Cottage (1974) is next door on one side, accommodating two and ideal for party members who would like a little more privacy (or peace and quiet perhaps!), while the Owner's son and family live on the other side of Butterwell House and farm the surrounding 470 acres.
