Mr Green October 2025
Rivendell is a quaint little cottage in a little Hamlet. It has all the features you would expect in a dwelling of this age but had modern features such as heat, hot water, dishwasher, fridge freezer etc. It also had a sweet little garden which would be great in the warmer months (we stayed in October). It was easy to navigate to and the location in North Cornwall made it easy to visit all of the popular hotspots such as Tintagel and in fact all of Cornwall as you are never that far from the main A roads. We would recommend this cottage to most folks but its not suitable for those who are not able bodied due to its quirky old features like steep steps. ...

Mrs Edwins September 2025
This is the worst accommodation we have ever stayed in. I booked this for myself and husband and our cocker spaniel but 2 days before the holiday I was contacted by classic cottages to ask if I would crate my dog in the accommodation as the owners had problems with previous guests. I said I would not and explained how good my dog was. This made me not want to go. I wish I had stuck to this because as we walked through the door the horrendous smell of damp hit us. If we had not drove for 6 hours we wouldn't have stayed. The bedding and towels smelt damp. The kitchen looked nice but on closer inspection there were slug trails on the chopping boards and mould on the blinds. Further issues found were toilet light too dim, shower either very hot or very very hot, lino not fitted correctly, lounge furniture very uncomfortable, iron didn't work, vacuum didn't work. We were told our dog could not go upstairs but carpet covered in long pale dog hairs, not from our dog. The exterior doors do not shut correctly making bad drafts. I complained to classic cottages and left a day early as could not cope any more with the place. We initially asked for a refund on our last night but on return thinking about how bad our holiday accommodation was we asked for full refund. All that was offered by owners was £50 refund but thanks to classic cottages that was increased to £100 and a further £100 from classic cottages. Not good enough. So my strong recommendation is DO NOT BOOK RIVENDELL!!!!!!!!!...

Please rest assured that this has all been discussed with the property owner so they could consider your feedback and check the shower, iron and hoover. Old properties like Rivendell Cottage can be more susceptible to damp smells due to the materials commonly used at the time they were built. We understand that some people are affected more than others by such smells, so include a specific section on the website about what you might expect in older buildings like this, and how to minimise the risk of damp. In this case it seems likely the smell was made more significant by the heating having only been on very low, but the owner is having someone over to see how this can be improved. The area manager has also been to the property since and has discussed any findings with the property owner. We were very sorry to hear of your disappointment on this occasion and do hope that you still enjoyed your time exploring the area. Julie, Customer Support...
