We stayed in Lantern Cottage, Totnes, for 10 days. This was our second visit as we came last year also in June. It is a lovely cosy cottage and the owners have thought of everything to make it a comfortable stay. Since our last visit the bathroom has been refurbished to include an overhead shower which was a huge bonus as I didn’t need to find a hairdresser during my stay (due to a back problem I am unable to wash my hair over a sink/bath). The cottage is situated immediately off the high street so is convenient for all the shops, eateries etc and also just a few yards from Totnes Castle. It is also just a 5-10 minutes walk from the train station - so car not necessary. We travelled from Leeds straight through to Totnes on the Cross Country train - so easy! and using Totnes as a base the local buses run take you to many interesting places. Last year we took 5 trips during our 10 day stay and did the same again this year - but to different places. The local bus took us to the beautiful resort of Salcombe for the day. Another day we took the ferry along the river Dart to Dartmouth. We spent the rainy day in the beautiful city of Exeter enjoying some retail therapy & visiting their magnificent cathedral. Just a stone’s throw away from Lantern Cottage is Totnes cinema - this is a quaint little 1950s cinema & has kept all its original features from when it was built as a temperance hall. The cinema is used for social events too. Totnes museum is just further down the high street - it dates back to 16c and is free admission. Our favourite restaurants are Steam Packet; Waterside Inn; Royal Seven Stars and Pie Street. We intended to go to Brixham and Torquay but ran out of time. This calls for another visit. ...

Great place to stay. Clean, warm and very comfortable. Location was excellent, only a minute or so to the town centre. Would definitely stay there again..

We had a lovely stay in Lantern Cottage. The cottage was spotless and beautifully decorated throughout. It’s in a great location within easy walking distance of the high street. There is a car park almost opposite the cottage, we always found a space and just paid a daily rate which we factored into the cost of the holiday. We loved Totnes, lots of lovely independent shops and cafes and a community run cinema which we highly recommend visiting. We’d definitely come again. ...

The location of Lantern Cottage is fantastic, right in the middle of Totnes and we enjoyed getting to know the High Street. The Cottage itself is lovely, a little quirky - we really enjoyed the top floor 'chill out' zone. It is thoughtfully decorated and has just about everything you could need. A shower would be a bonus, but otherwise it is just about perfect. Although very central, it was generally pretty quiet, the bells from St Marys the noisiest part of our stay. Totnes is a lovely town, we particularly enjoyed the live music at the Barrell House, Delphini's gelatos and the plethora of crystal shops! We had a lovely trip on the river down to Dartmouth and went swimming at the Waves Leisure pool in Torquay, which was a big hit with the kids. Definitely one to come back to!...
