From the moment we arrived we knew we had made the right choice with the “Piggery”, the drive through the woodland leading up to it is lovely and the views are outstanding. Tracy does an excellent job of making you feel very welcome and the accommodation is so well thought out with your own private garden with the sheep in the adjacent field together with the free range hens, what’s not to like. This area of North Devon was unknown to us and we were amazed at how much there was to do and see on your doorstep. If you are looking for a very private and peaceful rural setting you will get it at the “Piggery”.

Umberleigh is on the main railway line between Barnstaple and Exeter. This was a real boon to us in the very hot weather as we left our car at the station (plenty of space) and hopped on a train in either direction. Pay the conductor on the train. Exeter station very central for museum, art centre, cathedral and quayside.

The cottage had a very comfortable bed and a good shower. The secluded garden was a good extra space to a very compact cottage. The welcome pack of bread, milk, tea, coffee & eggs was appreciated. Note, you will not find the property using satnav. Visitors should be aware there are 2 friendly cats that constantly try to get into the cottage.

We stayed at the piggery for 5 nights it was a last minute booking and how lucky we were to find it. It is ideal for a couple it was very clean well equipped and furnished to a high standard. The piggery is very comfortable and a peaceful location. The garden is just perfect beautiful views across the country and a lovely place to sit relax and eat weather permitting. Comfortable deck chairs and a bbq which we used once. Tracy was very welcoming and there if you needed anything she left us local bread and her own chicken eggs which were delicious. We would love to visit again in the future and recommend a stay.

We can’t praise The Piggery property, it’s setting and hosts enough. From the moment we arrived to our departure our expectations were met by overwhelming joy. The location is stunning and peaceful, a real escape to the country. What the owners have achieved from a former ruined outbuilding is stunning. A perfectly designed studio, cleverly planned and beautifully furnished to a very high standard. Providing all you need within one space. Bedroom, kitchen, lounge and bathroom. The kitchen was very well equipped, bed very comfortable, bathroom a delight to use and comfortable seating/lounge area with TV, radio, games and books/local guides. Plenty of storage and well thought out shelving and table surfaces. The large windows looking out onto your own pretty private garden were much enjoyed during our relaxed morning coffees. The private garden (not overlooked) looks solely onto beautiful Devonshire countryside. With stylish and comfortable garden seating and a BBQ, Fire Pit, Lockable bike shed storage at your disposal. The views onto the farmstead with sheep and free roaming chickens were the icing on the cake. Their hens eggs are a must to try. We thank our hosts for the warm reception, attentive service, welcome goodies (of local produce) and beautiful Piggery accommodation. Simon & Irina
