Mrs Bloor April 2021
A gorgeous cottage in the most perfect location to watch the world go by at historic Charlestown harbour
Mrs Hughes October 2020
Lovely comfortable cottage with amazing view The woodburner is great The artwork and decor is tasteful
Ms Hodson October 2020
Fabulous location in Charlestown, within easy walking distance of both directions to the coastal path (to Fowey & Mevagissey), plenty of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Would highly recommend.
Mrs Day July 2020
Captains Gig is a wonderful place to relax, unwind and explore Cornwall. The cottage is fortunate to have everything close by ice cream shops, coffee shop, cream teas, fish and chips, pubs, restaurants, harbour BBQ and a fantastic deli selling Cornish produce. Every establishment had strict social distancing in place, so we felt safe at all times, the locals were welcoming and very pleased to be open. Having the beach on your doorstep is wonderful, the view from the bedroom window will be missed! There really wasn’t much need to leave Charlestown but we did and there are many beautiful beaches and coastal walks to try, plus fresh fish to buy at Mevagissey for the BBQ. It really was a truly wonderful time and we will return.
Mr Smith July 2020
What a beautiful cottage, amazing views, lovely neighbours and a great place for some R&R. We have already recommended to a friend who is booking. Thank you for helping us have a comfortable and really enjoyable break. Easy to get into the property with good instructions, plenty of places to eat out / drink and generally relax.
Mrs Balls February 2020
Lovely stay at The Captain's Gig. Wonderful location with amazing views - sitting on the window seat with the log burner inside and a storm outside. Cottage was very comfortable and nicely decorated and had everything we needed although would agree with previous comments that a bit more cutlery and mugs might result in fewer dish washer runs, but I'm just being picky as the kitchen was otherwise very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Charleston is a great location, lots to do nearby but great to come back to the village which is very pretty and has a great atmosphere with a good variety of pubs, restaurants and coffee shops, plus a deli and wine store. We tried Rashleigh Arms, our favorite, The Boat House and The Pier House for food, plus the Harbourside for drinks. All very good and dog friendly. The other restaurants looked very nice too but don't allow dogs so we could not try them. Only negative was that a near by property placed a traffic cone and plastic bench to reserve two parking spaces directly outside the cottage and asked us to move as soon as we had finished unloading. Because we stayed out of season it was not a major issue to find an alternative. Will certainly return to The Captain's Gig

Thanks so much for reviewing The Captain's Gig - the views from the window are certainly stunning no matter the weather outside! We're really pleased that you found the cottage comfortable overall and we'll certainly check the inventory at the next changeover and add any items as required. Parking is usually available outside Captain's Gig so we're sorry a couple of spaces were blocked off during your visit - we'll certainly follow that up but we're glad you found an alternative space nearby. Very nice cottage with everything you would need for a stay. We left the car outside and either walked or caught the bus on a couple of occasions, the rest of the time we stayed in and around village plenty to see.
Mr Jordan September 2019
Our third visit to The Captains Gig & we simply love the cottage because of its location. The cottage is beautifully presented and of course situated in one of our favourite places in Cornwall; Charlestown. As more restaurants & pop up bars are opening, to meet the demand of an increasingly popular Charlestown, parking becomes more difficult but overall still a fantastic place for a holiday.
Mrs Smith August 2019
Garden isvery badly kept, overgrown in places particularly outside the rear of the proporty inwhat cpuld a stunning courtyard. When wearrived the patiowas covered in leavesand garden debris. Which we handtoclean upbeforewe could use the patio. The garden furniture is completely shot, one chair and the table are broken ,and havent been maintained for years. The walls and gutter in the court yardneed to be thoroughly cleaned and a lick of paint here and therewould be nice. The ground floor shower roomneed ashower screen or curtain. The kitchen has a mi imalamount of the basic cutlery and crockery.infact webought 4 china mugs which we left in the property. Its such a shame as the property could be amazing with regular maintenance and a little effort. Not value for money in its current state. Charles Town is amazing we will defintely return but sadly not to the captains gig. We arent sure if the owners or classic cottages are at fault. I guess a little of both. It could be amazing but sadly falls well short.

We're so sorry to hear that the outside areas were not looking their best during your stay. Our owners do rely on their housekeepers and gardeners to ensure that everything is kept in order and we can only apologise that on this occasion, these issues have arisen. A new gardener is now in place and these areas have been attended to so thanks so much for letting us know. Bryony, Customer Support
Mr Scheffler July 2019
A perfect place to stay and start some tours.
Mr Adam July 2019
A wonderful cottage right in Charlestown harbour with direct access to coastal path. Many other towns and sight seeing options only a short drive away (Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Helligan, St. Austel Brewery, Mevagissey, Fowey).
Mrs Mills May 2019
This is a beautiful cottage in a premium location. There is a relatively steady stream of visitors to the harbour and they walk on the private road at the front of the cottage daily. Personally we loved this, it did not feel intrusive and was part of the atmosphere of staying here. Some attention to detail on the small things in the cottage would have made all the difference on our overall rating.

Charlestown certainly is a popular spot for visitors to the area - many will have seen it pop up in their favourite period drama as it's often used as a location for filming. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, we're pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Alison, Customer Support
Mr Smith October 2018
A comfortable and cosy cottage in a brilliant position overlooking the harbour and the sea. We loved it and hope to return before too long.
Mr Jordan September 2018
Very well appointed & in excellent condition. One of the best cottages we have stayed in in terms of position. The information supplied by Classic Cottages was first class particularly things to do in the area.
Ms Revelle March 2018
The cottage was very clean and comfortable with lots of character. The décor throughout was simple and attractive. We enjoyed the views of sea and harbour from the front windows and Charlestown itself has craft shops and good restaurants without its old fashioned charm being spoilt. We enjoyed fish and chips and a bottle of wine in front of the lit woodburner and lovely walks in the morning along the beach with the dog. All in all the place was perfect to retreat to and I'd definitely like to return in the summer.
Mr Best October 2017
Perfect holiday home for a family who want to feel at home and be in comfortable surroundings. Beautiful scenery which can be enjoyed from lovely front garden. Perfect place to while away the afternoon with a cup of tea. Can't wait to come back, thank you.
Mr Giggins September 2017
Good position but the continually passing parade is a little off putting. The stairs to the rear garden are heavily overgrown by plants which need trimming and the stairs swept.

Thanks for letting us know about your stay - we're sorry that you felt the garden was a bit overgrown, and we'll ask the owners to have a look. The position of the property right above the harbour does mean that there will be some comings and goings, but being in heart of the village does mean that you are well placed to enjoy all that is on offer. Mr Meeder August 2017
Excellent location. Great with children as well.
Miss Weston August 2017
I would recommend this beautiful little property to anyone. The location is superb, the quality of the finishing in the property is very high quality. The view from the front of the cottage over the quay is just lovely, and all with the beach and pubs just a stone's throw away (not to mention a few ice cream sellers, which my daughter was delighted with!). I had thought that parking was going to be a problem, but actually it was fine. A great place to relax and watch the world go by.
Mrs Smith July 2017
The Captain's Gig is an amazing place to stay on a family holiday. Charlestown is a hidden gem. Best holiday we've had in years.
Mr Vering June 2017
Great spirit in the old house! love is in the house
The conservatory with the big kitchen ist a great place for cooking an dining. The living-room with the bench is a place where everybody wants to stay. second bed ist a little bit small - for lovers only the view and the few meters to go everywhere - couldn´t be better
only problem: you have to leave the house after holiday ;-)
