The Long Barn - in the corner of this photo with its open fronted barbecue barn to the right is stunning. A truly exceptional barn conversion in a very historic setting.
You can walk or cycle for miles along the tow path. You will need to cross over a little bridge but access is very nearby - a short walk through the owners' land from the property.
There is a mezzanine sitting-room where you can curl up to watch films. The door leads through to the magnificent double bedroom. The first floor beams are a great feature but are low where they meet.
The kitchen is designed for great fun as well as being very practical and fabulously equipped. Floor to ceiling windows look out over your front garden.
This is the first bedroom suite, reached via the stairs at the far end of the sitting-room. Please note that the angled beams are low where they meet the walls.
The bedroom is on the ground floor and has a king-sized bed. This can be made up as twins if you choose.
The first floor bedroom is so spacious, with an ultra contemporary en suite shower-room (a screen is provided for modest guests).
Both bedrooms have top quality 600 count Egyptian cotton bed linens and towelling robes.
There is a huge shower with drench shower head as well as a standard shower head. The shower can be entered from both sides. This is the en suite for the first floor bedroom.
The ground floor bedroom has a bath and a walk-in shower which has been designed with built-in seating to help any guests who may have mobility problems.
This bed on the ground floor can be made into twins if you prefer.
The stairs to the side of the kitchen lead up to the mezzanine sitting-room.
Another view of the mezzanine sitting-room which is above the kitchen/dining area.
A warm welcome the moment you arrive.
Every detail has been carefully chosen to suit this wonderful property.
There is all the equipment you can possibly need here. Everything is exceptionally high quality.
Bright colours complement the gentle decor of the kitchen.
At the front of The Long Barn, alongside the covered parking for guests, is this cheerful open fronted outside eating and barbecue-area.
A little pathway through the owners' land will take you to the Grand Western Canal that runs along the border of The Long Barn.
This is the perfect property for a special occasion as well as for a happy family holiday.

I stayed at the Long Barn with my parents and bridesmaids the night before my wedding at Upton Barn an Walled Gardens and it was perfect! There was plenty of room for us all and it was beautiful! The photographer loved it- I’ll send on the pictures when I get them!!! The make up artist loved the light at the kitchen table. My new husband and I stayed the night of our wedding and the following night. The barn had everything we needed and made for an extra special start to married life. I strongly suggest that anyone who books follows the directions provided and not their phones!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! X

The long barn is a beatifully renovated barn. Very high standard and design. Lovely and peaceful surroundings.

May 2018

Overall a very spacious barn the garden overlooking the canal would have been lovely but the noise of the M5 was a bit much at times.

March 2018

It’s a real shame that The Long Barn is being down sized for letting (losing a bedroom & huge lounge) as we would have loved to return.

Reply from Classic Cottages

Although previously available for six guests (with a third bedroom), the owners have decided that the best configuration will be as a two bed property sleeping four. It still offers a beautiful and spacious property with the same glorious location and a great mezzanine sitting-room, so we hope that at some point in the future your party of four may consider a return visit. The Long Barn is an incredibly spacious, stylish, luxurious property, and the standard of the styling / furnishing and workmanship is quite something. Frankly, why we haven't seen this project on Grand Designs is beyond me; Kevin McCloud would love it! (We especially loved the bathrooms.) For a group of six, you'll have plenty of space to hang-out together or apart.

The only 'negatives' (which might not be negatives for everyone else) were that (1) you can always hear the distant rumble/swoosh of motorway traffic (M5) from the garden, and if your upstairs windows are open, and (2) the downstairs living room and rear garden are completely overlooked by the owners' home that's attached to this property. (We shut all of the downstairs' curtains to get around this issue, indoors at least.) Perhaps if the owners install vertical venetian blinds in the living room sometime, that problem indoors would be solved completely.

Also - watch your head on the beams in the bedrooms and mezzanine lounge!

Otherwise a first-class property that is comfortable, top-rate and highly enjoyable. Many thanks!

My daughter got married from this lovely house! We picked it as it was near the wedding venue and so that the family could all be together before and after the Big Day. Highly recommend.

We had such a wonderful time at the Long Barn and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. It's great that each room is a great size with a full modern bathroom ensuite, this would make it perfect for a couple of families or even three couples enjoying a staycation. The modern comforts of sonos and a Smart TV make it a real home from home.

Wonderful location. Great comfort. Ideal for Daytrips in the Region. Very friendly and helpful owner. Five Star !!!!

June 2017

The Long Barn is a very special holiday retreat, my family spent a lovely week there in July 2017 and will definitely return. Recommended for anyone wanting a relaxing holiday but with access to all the special parts of Glorious Devon.

June 2017

We are a family with two two children and one little dog and we had a great week in June in the long barn. Everything was just perfect and lovely designed. The owners where very helpful and friendly. It was very impressive to see, how the transition from the old long barn to a luxury holiday cottage occurred. There are some nice walks close by and many interesting places are close and easy to reach with a car.

April 2017

A group of six of us stayed at the Long Barn for a long weekend in April. We found the Long Barn to be a beautiful high quality holiday home. The owners were very friendly, and we left knowing that the weekend had fully met our expectations, and that we would all be very happy to return again.

December 2016

A very beautiful cottage! It's perfect for a relaxing family holiday with a well-equipped kitchen, a living room with a stove and more than enough space for everyone. We spent a lovely week here during the winter months and would love to come back soon.

This is a great place to stay - good location, fab canal walks, beautiful beautiful property. Highly recommend it. This is a beautiful property - everything about it was first class, from the barn itself to the fixtures, fittings and things like bedding, kitchen equipment and so on. Would come back in a shot and would highly recommend it.

August 2016

We had a great stay in luxurious accommodation. It was like living in a magazine set. All the fixtures and fittings were first class, including sharp knives and luxury towels and bath robes.

The location is excellent, close enough for easy reach to the motorway but far enough away to be in the unspoilt country, also good rail links. Great pubs found by walking along the tow path of the canal.

Owners close by if needed but unobtrusive.
