Across the estuary, reached by a lovely seasonal passenger ferry, is Instow, where there are wide sandy beaches at low and high tide.
A few hundred yards away you can stroll down the slipway at low tide for a sandy stretch of beach for your four-legged friend and children to enjoy.
Appledore is a traditional old fishing village with a wonderful network of little lanes and passageways to explore.
Catch the ferry from Bideford quay for a day out to Lundy Island.
North Devon's beaches are as good as any in Cornwall for surfing! Endless stretches of golden sand and rolling waves. This is Saunton Sands.
Charming Clovelly is a short car journey away.

Appledore is a delightful small town on the Torridge estuary with some terrific independent shops, pubs and restaurants. It is an excellent centre for exploring the North Devon coast and Poacher's Cottage is the perfect place to stay. It's a cosy and comfortable character cottage in the most attractive part of town. It's just yards from the sea, but quiet and secluded. I recommend it without hesitation....

Amazing location literally a stone’s throw from the sea and 2 pubs with great food and views of the coast and beautiful scenery. We've just spent a week staying in Poacher's Cottage, Appledore and can certainly recommend this cottage if you are looking for a lovely, well presented, 2 bedroomed cottage in an easy accessible, quiet area of Appledore. Just yards from 2 very good pubs, both The Royal George and The Beaver serve very good food. Near to excellent sandy dog friendly beaches - what more could you want! ...
