October 2018

Shepton Mallet and surrounding area is beautiful and our cottage is a good base with walks from the house.

September 2018

We were very happy with the cottage and nothing was a problem for the owners

June 2018

A wonderful place to stay with friendly owners just next door and dozens of interesting places to visit nearby.

June 2018

Cannot fault the accommodation, cannot fault the location, lots of local information was in the cottage, places to visit, places to eat etc A very nice place all together.

August 2017

The cottage is advertised as a "sleep 6", which is correct as the bedrooms do have 6 sleeping spaces. However, we found the living space tight (and were only 3 people), the fridge really tiny (in a really small kitchen). The shower pressure was almost non-existing.

Despite a very warm welcome and a great location, we would not recommend this cottage for more than 3/4 people and do believe you can find better cottages (with properly working shower, normal size kitchen ....).

Thanks for reviewing The Coach House and we're sorry it wasn't quite what you were looking for on this occasion. The galley kitchen is just off the open plan living/dining area as detailed and has been created to give as much space as possible. There is a second fridge in the laundry room which guests are welcome to use and we've asked the owners to check the shower pressure - thanks for letting us know. Bryony, Customer Support

Lovely cottage. Evan though the cottage is attached to the owners home you would not know. When we did see or contact the owners they were very hospitable and respected our privacy. Such a peaceful location, perfect for relaxing and exploring the countryside. Owners directed us on walks with our dogs and we had the use of a hose pipe outside to clean off the mud on our return. Shepton Mallet is a short 3-5 min drive where you can access a large Tesco's and a smaller Co-opp to pick up supplies. The local fish and chip shop is beautiful with very large portions and the Indian restaurant/takeaway, Mughal, was also very good. Laura made my husband a birthday cake after she found out it was his birthday, lovey gesture. Thank you very much for letting us into your home.

February 2017

Very comfortable and warm cottage with lovely large bedrooms. Kitchen is small but sufficient and open plan lounge dining space was smaller in comparison to bedrooms but fine for our party of 3. Pictures on website gave an accurate impression of the cottage, so I wasn't surprised to see the living space was quite compact. Wood burner stove was a real plus as we had snow whilst staying. Heating was on 24 hours a day, so we didn't really need it but was lovely to turn heating down and have stove on.

Owners were very helpful without being intrusive. Cottage is great if you have a dog as there are walks from the door, including one that explores Shepton Mallet vicinity. Also so easy to get to Wells, Bath & Glastonbury. There is a large Tesco superstore within a couple of miles which also has petrol station.

Great location, as very quiet and peaceful and yet only a mile or so to get to main road which links you to everywhere.

January 2017

Very good welcome from owners. Cottage felt very dog friendly and enclosed garden great and easy. Bedrooms on ground floor very comfortable and plenty of room to spread out. Warm, cosy and a real rural retreat.

November 2016

We very much enjoyed our stay. The cottage was very warm, comfortable and well-furnished. Good value for money to stay in the area, with shops/pubs/attractions a short drive away. Peaceful with a wood-burning stove for the cold and misty evenings. Great that dogs are welcome. Would be happy to stay again!

September 2016

Perfect location for a get away from it all holiday, whilst near enough to some stunning towns/villages.

July 2016

Disappointing and would not recommend. Definitely not suitable for 6 people despite having enough beds. Everything else only suitable for 2/4 people.

It is a great shame that you were so disappointed. Parties of six regularly stay at the cottage and were therefore surprised and sorry that your party of five found it a little too small for your preferences. We have obviously discussed your comments in person and wish you the very best of luck for your relocation to the area. Tanya, Customer Support

The cottage is exactly as shown in the description. It is very comfortable and the views are great.

November 2015

A really nice location to visit Wells (6 miles), Shepton Mallet (2 miles), Glastonbury (8 miles) and Bath (19 miles) from, the Coach House is a really pleasant 'annexe' to the main building. We only used two of the three bedrooms so I can only comment on them- they were large and comfy, with the downstairs en-suite with shower overhead very nice. The main living room could be a bit tight with six, but would be perfect for four guests - and the walk through to the lovely garden space would more than compensate during good weather. Nice garden with lovely views too. Laura came round the first afternoon to see if everything was okay, and told us to knock if we needed help, but we weren't aware of them at any other time - which is perfect really. There is a Tesco Superstore 2 miles away in Shepton Mallet if you need to stock up for your holiday - very easy to get to/from. Our highlights were Bath (we arrived on the first day of their Xmas Market, which made it even nicer) - a really nice vibe and a very pretty place. Wells is, for me, the lesser known jewel in the crown though - the astonishing cathedral, Bishops Palace (in a wonderful moat setting) and loads of really important history right on its doorstep (do not miss Vicar's Close - the oldest continually inhabited, unchanged street in Europe - dating back from 1363!). A glorious surprise and one I heartily recommend. For dogs there are lots of good guides in the cottage for tips on walks - really useful and some are right outside your doorstep almost. All in all, a lovely relaxed stay for us and one I can recommend to you all.

October 2015

Ideal for colder weather with heated towel rails, central heating and wood burning stove. There was no charge for electricity and it was on all day which we appreciated.

Some lovely eating places within easy reach. Would recommend "The Strode Arms, Cranmore."

August 2015

My annual summer holiday is really important to me. We save up and look forward to it and 'Classic Cottages' always remembered that.

July 2015

Lovely stay and enjoyable week

Thank you

The interior of the cottage reflects the age of the property.

A little isolated so not an ideal location for families with children.

There are other properties in the area that may offer a client a holiday retreat of a higher standard.

Thanks for giving a review of The Coach House. This is a property that enjoys the very best of rural tranquility with its beautiful countryside location and fantastic walking on the doorstep, yet is well placed for exploring the area (you will need a car to get around, but that's true of most parts of Somerset). We know that your party was four adults, but there are lots of family friendly days out within driving distance of this lovely comfortable cottage - Glastonbury, Longleat, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole and Bath (great shopping!). It is a shame that The Coach House wasn't quite what you were looking for, but do give us a call next time you want to holiday in the area and we'll do our best to help you. Tanya, Customer Support

June 2015

We all thought the cottage was perfect. Very comfortable. Everything works. Undercover parking, a patio where we sat and watched the sun go down after a long days walk. Beautiful views.

October 2014

Would use the Web site in the future to look for other cottages.

September 2014

Lovely sunny patio and friendly owners.

August 2014

We loved the quiet location, lovely position on the hillside allowing lovely views of the valleys; though it was very handy for the local village pubs & Shepton Mallet. All the family were lovely & very welcoming; their dogs included. In particular we really appreciated the fact that they dog sat one evening - even walking the dogs - allowing us a family evening out in Bath. The homemade Victoria sponge cake was another thoughtful addition & entirely enjoyable; we would recommend & love to return. thank you

April 2014

A beautiful cottage in a stunning location. The perfects stay for a family in Somerset.

March 2014

Thanks for a relaxing stay in a beautiful location

December 2013

Nice cottage and lovely people.

November 2013

Cottage in a wonderful location with gorgeous views and amazing silence (apart from the birds). Owners very friendly and helpful....we were working whilst there but would love to come back for a holiday.

November 2013

Very comfortable place to stay in a delightful area with plenty of walks and good country pubs close-by. Very helpful and friendly owners a nice place to stay.

November 2013

Brottens Cottage (The Coach House) fulfilled all of our needs: peaceful and rural, but with lots of amenities within 3 miles; good walks from the doorstep; dog friendly; and comfortable. The owner, Laura, struck exactly the right balance - making us feel very welcome without being obtrusive. We would happily return. Ian and Sally.

September 2013

Lovely home in a lovely area great for walking and enjoyment of the countryside.

May 2013

Brottens (The Coach House) is a lovely cottage; a real home from home thoughtfully furnished, decorated and equipped. The owners are friendly, welcoming and helpful.

The area is fabulous for walking - short or long, flat or climbing and the views are simply stunning, the English countryside at its very best. For non-walkers or (occasional) wet days the Fleet Air Arm Museum is a must, along with Wells and Glastonbury.

There are a number of really good pubs in the locality serving excellent food and allowing dogs in. There is a large Tesco and retail park just a couple of miles away to replenish self-catering supplies.

Basically, Brottens and its surrounding area have everything to offer an easy and relaxed holiday. After our fortnight there we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed in this cottage, with the few exceptions stated in our Review Guidelines.
