Little Leywood is a cosy and comfortable cottage in a stunning location, very quiet but easy to get around from. The birdsong was spectacular. Lovely walks on the doorstep. Mel and Ian were welcoming and extremely helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

This was a warm, comfortable and well located cottage, with very welcoming owners - we really enjoyed our stay there.

Previous reviews of this property had emphasised the warm welcome from the owners ( who live next door) and the provision of home cooked meals if requested. However, we were greeted with a rather brusque set of instructions for recycling and surprise that we had a dog - this despite my having rung the previous day to confirm our arrival and had mentioned the dog. So we did not feel especially welcome. There was a message inside stating that 'due to Covid' there were no cooked meals and for the same reason they did not provide their usual welcoming bread, milk and eggs.... Now, I don't feel there is any obligation to provide either of these services but I am not aware of any Covid restrictions that would prevent them. Also + there is a review of this property online for July this year ie just two weeks previous to our visit on the 17th - praising the delicious homecooked meals...We were puzzled by this. So we did feel these aspects of the property had been somewhat misrepresented. And given the remoteness of the location it seemed strange not to at least check we had all the provisions we needed. One final point - and this is general for holiday lets. Why do they only ever provide one small roll of toilet paper? Surely, it wouldn't break the bank to provide two or even three! It is a strange economy.

Thank you for your review of Little Leywood. We're saddened to read that there were some areas that you were not happy with. The home cooked meals are an additional extra that the owners offer when possible and we can understand your disappointment that regrettably they could not be provided during your stay. We would like to reassure you that in no way did the owners want you to feel unwelcome at the property. We do check in with all of our guests on the first day of their stay with a 'how are you settling in' email - and so wish that we had heard from you so we could of offered assistance at the time. We do have an inventory list on our website so our guests know what to expect in each cottage but sorry that you feel this is lacking. We hope to welcome you back to a Classic Cottage in the future. A major plus point is the availability of suburb meals cooked by Ian.They represent top quality ,value and are especially welcome in these Covid times when it seems like everyone want to visit the South West .

What a lovely, peaceful stay at this cottage. Waking up to the sound of sheep in the fields and then breakfast out in the courtyard garden. It is close to many places and yet, luxurious enough that you could just while away the time in the cottage. We feel totally relaxed after our week.

Easy to find, character full, good location for Devon's attractions with the Sidmouth Arms, a splendid pub for food and drinks a few miles away. The host was exceptional and very helpful. On site car parking by the entrance of the cottage.

Cottage and courtyard lovely and very peaceful. Lots of birds! Beautiful walks close by and cottage well situated to visit charming Beer and Branscombe! Ian's meals a real treat and not to be missed! The access lane may prove challenging for some vehicles as its very narrow but shouldn't put you off!!

We had a great stay at Little Leywood. This cottage is a fantastic home-from-home, cosy and welcoming. The owners were really friendly and helpful, recommending great walks and places to eat out and things to do in the area. We loved the quiet, sheltered garden and fantastic location for exploring Devon, Dorset and Somerset. Don’t miss the wonderful Otter Valley dairy ice cream and pizza place down the road with unmissable views!

Not to a covid clean standard.

We're really sorry to see you felt further Covid precautions could have been made. We have worked with all our owners to share industry guidance on how to minimise risk. We'd always ask guests to let us know of any problems during their stay so that we and our owners have an opportunity to put things right, and so that guests can fully enjoy their stay. Very isolated pretty cottage, with enclosed garden. Very friendly, helpful owners. Loved meeting the baby owl that they rescued.

in the catalogue of classic cottages the cottage is listed for two dogs, in the booklet you get at arrival from the owner, there is only one dog possible, this did not apply to us, but: most important: the owner's wife explained to us on arrival, that dogs are not allowed upstairs in the bedrooms! this should be stated on the classic cottages website, in the description of the cottage, and not as a small note in the booking confirmation

Thanks so much for your thoughts; two dogs are welcomed at Little Leywood if they are a small breed, but we're pleased this wasn't a problem for you. We do ask that our four-legged friends are not allowed upstairs or on any furniture - this is explained in our Booking Conditions and also on the Arrival Details that we send to guests before their holiday. We do hope you had a lovely stay. Tressa, Customer Support

A cosy cottage ...located in a tranquil spot where so many wildbirds can be seen from the large windows spent quite a lot of time relaxing and watching them.

Need to be stocked up with food as Honiton possibly the best place to do a large shop so remote from shops .

We enjoyed our stay despite the rain....although with so many other lovely cottages would not return.

The owners did not bother us except to show us the wonderful Owl that had been rescued.

It was easy range of N. T [properties such as Barrington Court and Montacute House...worth a visit.

Thanks for your review of Little Leywood. It sounds heavenly relaxing in front of that window watching the local birdlife going about their business. The cottage has a wonderfully tranquil position roughly 3 miles from the local town of Honiton so stocking up on goodies before your holiday is a really good idea. Bryony, Customer Support

Ian and Mo are the best hosts and made us so welcome. Cottage is cosy and welcoming. Ian’s cooking is fantastic. Highly recommended

The cottage kitchen was amply stocked with every piece of equipment you could ever need! Very well thought out plan for recycling!

... It was a very pretty location we had a very enjoyable week!

Everything is provided for in a beautiful cottage in a fantastic position. And do not even think of staying there without sampling Ian's cooking! A gourmet meal brought to your table by a charming chef. Idyllic.

3 stars is a little harsh. However we did not feel it rated 4 stars.

Lovely warm, cosy, inviting cottage with enclosed patio garden area (perfect for our dog) in a beautiful rural area, but close enough to Honiton, and only a short drive to the coast. Wonderful week, with plenty of lovely walks, and our hosts could not have been better: always very friendly & welcoming. And Ian's cooking is not to be missed!! Lovely meal. We will not hesitate to stay here again, and hope to do so before to long , in fact we cannot wait! First class experience all round.

We would certainly book with Classic Cottages again! We loved staying at Little Leywood and having our own private home while on vacation. It was cozy and inviting and the country setting was very peaceful. Ian cooked us a wonderful meal one evening and it is a special memory. We would definitely recommend staying here!

We had a lovely time at Little Leywood. Mo and Ian were great and Ian's cooking is superb if you fancy trying the meal service they offer! A very quiet location bar any wildlife which is just what we wanted. An excellent stay all round and would stay again if holidaying in that region. Many thanks to Mo and Ian of Leywood Cottage and to Classic Cottages for an easy booking process and first class communications throughout. Excellent!! Mr D. Murphy

What s beautiful place to stay in. Made our family holiday feel like a home from home. Beautiful cottage in s beautiful location. So relaxing. The owners are so lovely and can't be more helpful! Thanks once again for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage truly is stunning and just so beautiful. Loved every minute of it.

We had such a memorable stay at Little Leywood. It is close to all the best coastline and surrounding areas like Honiton are well worth a visit. We loved the cottage and its cosy feel! Already looking forward to going back!

A very tranquil location, but only a short drive from many coastal towns and attractions.

Beautiful comfortable and relaxing cottage, with kind and friendly owners on hand, if required, to help you make the very best of your holiday. Ian's gourmet meals really are a must, quality food expertly cooked at a very fair price. Great location to explore South and East Devon, and Dorset beyond.

Mo and Ian made us very welcome from the start. They were never intrusive and could not have been more helpful. Ian's meal was superb and I would recommend anyone that stays to try. He even clears dishes and washes up in his own cottage, leaving you relaxed and very full! The wildlife is fantastic, especially the bird life. We have never identified so many types of bird before that visit to feed. The highlight of our stay was seeing Ian's owls and listening to his fantastic knowledge. Overall, this was one of the better cottages we have stayed at in the west country.

This holiday was one of the most beautiful we've ever had. The very warm welcome, the cottage and Devon's great coast and countryside was SUPER :) We and our son Robert enjoyed our 2 weeks! Thanks for all!

We chose Little Leywood because of the area. The quietness of the countryside and not too far from the sea.

Little Leywood is much more impressive in real life. It is a beautiful and well laid out property in a wonderful location.

We chose Little Leywood because of the nature and surroundings.

To anyone renting this cottage for the first time, I strongly suggest that you take advantage of Ian's meal service at your earliest opportunity because you'll certainly want more.
