Good base for exploring both the north and south coast as well as the local creak area. The accommodation was the best equipped we have ever stayed in! The owners live near by which is always a bonus when you have any problems or queries.
Mr Freeman October 2023
Wonderful cottage in perfect condition and excellent location.
Mrs Simmons September 2023
Orchard Vean was warm, comfortable and in an excellent, quiet location. Nick and Barbara are welcoming, kind and helpful hosts but not intrusive. The flowers and cream tea made a good start. The weather threw everything at us but snow and it was a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
Frau Dietrich September 2023

Mrs Ellis August 2023
Lovely rural cottage in quiet location, Grade II listed property with some interesting features, kitchen very well equipped and lots of space to prepare dinner. Good size garden and lots of great walks. Trelissick Gardens dog friendly and beautiful walks.
mrs clark August 2023
choose with confidence, everything is as described, great quality and attention to detail. We think it was very good value.
Mrs Nicholls August 2023
Orchard Vean is small but perfectly formed, it has everything you need and nothing that you don’t; from the comfortable bed, fantastic shower and cosy living area, you couldn’t ask for more. The garden is a lovely spot to enjoy a morning coffee or evening apéritifs. There are some lovely walks direct from the property and the National Trust Property, Trelissick, is only a 5 minute drive. The owners, Nick & Barbara are on site, if you should need anything, but are not obtrusive. However, Nick can give you some great tips on where to go and Barbara’s cream teas are a delight. We would have no hesitation in recommending a stay at Orchard Vean to anyone.
Mr Winter August 2023
Lovely well-equipped cottage in a very beautiful and peaceful setting, well placed for Falmouth, Truro and the outer reaches of Cornwall. Nick was the most welcoming of hosts and happily took time to answer all our questions and provide local knowledge. We would return without hesitation.
Mrs Marshall June 2023
This is a very comfortable cottage in a very quiet location but not far from all amenities.
Rev Hobden May 2023
Relaxing and peaceful
Miss Gizzy April 2023
Great little cottage in a peaceful location. This is a good find for exploring south & south west Cornwall. It has everything you need as a home away from home. Owners are so friendly & just next door if you need anything. Lovely walks right on your doorstep, great pubs in walking distance & a tea room to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Mrs Pryce March 2023
A perfect holiday cottage. Orchard Vean was immaculate, cosy, well equipped, warm and comfortable, with very attentive hosts in beautiful surroundings. There's a lovely walk along the creek and it's a perfect base for exploring on bike - though we were grateful to have ebikes! We loved staying there. It's a hidden gem.

We enjoyed our stay at Orchard Vean. We had a warm welcome from Nick with a very nice cream tea on arrival. The cottage was very comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen & a super powerful shower. It is in a very quiet location with parking beside the cottage. We can thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in south west Cornwall.

Mr Eley February 2023
Orchard Vean is a beautiful property set in lovely grounds and in a perfect location. It is well equipped and comfortable. We liked that it is on one level and appreciated the shower rather than a bath. Having a dishwasher was a real asset and gave us more time to go out! There are lots of walks from the property, many interesting properties and gardens to visit and Truro is very close. The perfect place to stay with very welcoming and helpful hosts. We are already looking forward to our next visit!
Mrs Mortimer February 2023
We loved this exceptionally clean cottage and felt at home immediately. We were welcomed by Nick the owner who showed us around and explained how things worked. The literature was very helpful and detailed some lovely walks from the cottage. The walk to Devoran is a must with a lovely meal at The Quay Inn. Trelissick gardens are very close and worth a visit. We also used the King Harry Ferry to access the coastal footpath at Towan Beach. If you love walking, this area is for you. The cottage has a lovely garden and the peace and quiet is almost deafening! Thank you for the delicious cream tea. The cottage is perfect and I can’t recommend it enough.
Ms Schofield December 2022
A great choice of holiday venue and hope to return

Miss Cook December 2022
This is a truly cozy cottage.
I've been traveling around England staying in cottages I've booked on this site, and this is by far the most comfortable to date.
It really feels like a home, and there's lots of nice light. Comfy couch too.
Barbara and Nick also let me check in 2 hours early when I arrived sick as a dog after a stay at another cottage with a bad mattress and inconsistent heat, which I appreciated deeply. I went inside and went to sleep for the better part of the next 20 hours. If this cottage weren't so cozy, I don't think I would have gotten back to health within a week, more or less, as I managed to do.
Barbara even brought me medicine and extra tissues when I felt too weak to leave the house. I was very grateful to her.
mr hill October 2022
Orchard Vean is genuinely home from home , its warm comfy and has everything you need.
Mrs Thompson August 2022
A lovely clean property- perfect for two. We enjoyed the peace and quiet when sitting outside. Perfect location for walking the byways and taking in the views.
Mrs Carter August 2022
A most pleasant well equipped cottage set in peaceful surroundings.
Mrs Ding July 2022
everything was perfect
Mr Elson July 2022
A lovely welcome by the owners started off our stay in this wonderfully presented cottage which contained everything we needed. A beautiful location, so idyllic and peaceful. Would recommend the circular walk starting and finishing at the Lemon Arms in Mylor Bridge with lunch halfway at the spectacular Pandora Inn with its jetty over the creek where you can sit and enjoy the wildlife while dining. A perfect week. Would highly recommend Orchard Vean.
mr BRAME June 2022
A charming wonderful cottage, full of old world charm with a modern twist, spotlessly clean ,open plan very well equipped kitchen, with everything needed to make any meal , lots of utensils ,dishes, pans , etc, outside table and chairs, very quite garden area, really good wi-fi, a perfect peaceful place to relax , close to the beaches, Troro and Falmouth and a great host Nick, we are really looking forward to our next stay
Mrs Wheeler May 2022
A lovely cosy cottage really well equipped. Nice outdoor space with seating for eating, reading or just relaxing. Good space for our setter to chill out but not a secure dog garden. Great walks close by. Trelisick gardens short car ride away with more lovely walks and open garden with cafe and shop.
Mr Greenslade April 2022
An amazing tranquil cottage, an excellent place to unwind, then venture out to the beach, towns and everything in between. The hosts were great on arrival, then let you enjoy your stay, but any problems to “give them a knock” lovely scones with clotted cream and home made jam awaited our arrival, as well as tulips.
Mrs Stroud February 2022
Ideal property for a short, or longer, break. Well equipped and helpful, friendly hosts. Well situated for Truro, Falmouth as well as the immediate locality for walks. Our second visit to Orchard Vean and we would heartily recommend. Ann and Will
Mrs Deacon January 2022
Exceeded our expectations. A lovely, warm and comfortable cottage with everything you need. Beautiful location and fantastic for the dogs, with walks on the doorstep. Nick and Barbara were really helpful and made our stay extra special, cream tea was delicious. Shower hot and powerful and bed so comfortable. A real home from home and we were sad to leave. Thoroughly recommended.

Mrs Clarkson January 2022
We have visited this cottage about 5/6 times over a number of years at different times of the year and during school holidays. We shall continue to visit as it is a quiet and unspoilt venue. I have read the comment about caravans but in our experience we have never had any cause for complaint and there has been no disturbance from the tiny site (5 vans) away from the cottage. I think the people that visit the site like us want peace and quiet like us!
Mrs Gould November 2021
This is a cozy cottage that is exceptionally well kitted out and very comfortable. It's in a lovely location and when we were there in late November it was very peaceful, with easily accessible walking out the door. A lovely National Trust property very nearby offers extensive walking. And the iconic King Harry Ferry which takes you across the River Fal opens up an even more pastoral quiet part of Cornwall. I will say, however, that this property could be different in the summer if all 5 of the caravan sites are occupied.
Mr Chapman November 2021
Highly recommended.
Mrs Trim November 2021
Loved the peace and quiet and our hosts.
Mrs Saunders October 2021
I would really recommend Orchard Vean to anyone.
Mrs Wolsey October 2021
Such a friendly welcome. Nick and Barbara were so helpful and easy to talk to. Orchard Vean was superbly clean and had everything we needed. The cream tea was a very thoughtful touch. We felt comfortable and very Covid- safe. Lovely quiet location. So easy to explore the local countryside and its excellent walking. So many wonderful gardens!
Mrs Bradley September 2021
A splendid little cottage tucked away in a steep sided valley down a fairly narrow lane. A welcome cream tea and flowers were there on arrival a lovely touch. We even had squirrels and robins arrive for breakfast. The peace and quieet and beauty of the creek not far away was wonderful .
Mr Costello August 2021
Would return anytime if garden could be made enclosed for dogs.
Dr Snowise August 2021
Very comfortable and well equipped cottage in a very quiet rural location. Relaxing stay. Nice little garden but not dog proof.
Mr McLean June 2021
A superb cottage for two (plus dog) in a great location with walks straight out of the door. Very comfortable and well equipped with great hosts. Highly recommended.
Mrs Marshall June 2021
This is a gem of a cottage in a very quiet location. It has everything in it you could think of to make it a comfortable place to stay. From the cream tea on arrival to the large towels and lovely shower with plenty of hot water.
Miss Gallagher May 2021
This was our second visit to Orchard Vean. It is a very well-equipped and comfortable cottage just by Restronguet Creek. It is a very quiet and relaxing place to stay and recharge your batteries. It is ideally situated for visiting Trelissick Gardens and taking the King Harry Ferry to the Roseland Peninsula. Our hosts were, as usual, very welcoming and offered good advice in terms of local walks etc.
Mr Lake April 2021
Orchard vean was everything we expected in all respects. The lanes are very narrow but no problems. I dont think anyone could be disapointed.
Mrs King April 2021
Spotlessly clean, fully equipped, in a stunning location!
Mr Gallagher December 2020
The kitchen was the best equipped that we have stayed in. Comfy sofa & bed. Appreciated the simulated log fire as well as the central heating. The outside lobby area was great for keeping walking boots & coats. Liked watching the squirrels & robins in the garden. Made good use of the maps & local guidebooks provided. Friendly host
Mrs Holland December 2020
Well worth a visit.
Mr Williams October 2020
The cottage was nice and clean and tidy. The cottage had all the usual equipment which was spot on even the bed was nice and comfortable. Surroundings were brilliant for our jack Russell dog Murphy who likes a good wonder. The flowers and the jam and scones were a nice touch home made jam you can’t get that in a supper market .The owners were very friendly and obliging.Thank you to all concerned
Ms Patterson October 2020

Mr McLean July 2020
Wonderful cottage in lovely location with great hosts. 11 out of 10 (the weather helped)
Mrs Grace July 2020
Delightful cottage and good location for exploring this beautiful part of Cornwall. One of the cleanest cottages we have stayed in with Unobtrusive owners who left a delicious cream tea on arrival. Quality kitchen equipment, everything you could possibly need for your stay. Lovely grounds and orchard which you are free to explore with walks from the door along to the creek and bridle ways. We would add that the garden although lovely is not dog proof. Our dog was a bit too nosy, sniffing out the BBQ’s of the campers/caravans also on site some of whom also had dogs. We had to have him on his lead the last couple of evenings so he didn’t wander. Apart from that a great holiday.
Mr King March 2020
Lovely peaceful location with walks from the door to be found in a folder on the book shelves. Kitchen area very well equipped comfy bed and a good shower. Good size garden area for dogs but not secure. Parking is right outside the property.
Mrs Stroud January 2020
Nothing further to add, except to heartily recommend Orchard Vean.

Well equipped and very clean. Peaceful and quiet. Cosy and comfortable. Perfect escape.
Mrs Bradford September 2019
Lovely comfortable cottage in a lovely location. Nick and Barbara were most helpful and made us very welcome during our two week stay. A really nice well appointed cottage with everything spotlessly clean - even the wine glasses shone. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Mr Baxter September 2019
The weather was damp all week. But we did have a wonderful stay at orchard dean, exploring the many creek side walks and local pubs.
Mr King September 2019
We had high expectations of our stay at Orchard Vean and we were not disappointed. We received a very warm welcome from Nick and his introduction to the cottage included safety aspects such as the carbon monoxide alarms, fire alarms and extinguisher along with his invaluable knowledge of the local area including walks which can be done from the cottage. Barbara had left a delicious cream tea (which included home made jam) and the flowers made the cottage feel homely. There is everything in the cottage you would require for self catering and there is a good shower and the most comfy bed. The porch was larger than we expected and an ideal place to leave walking boots and dry off dogs if they are wet. Double patio doors lead out onto the outdoor seating area and cushions are provided for the chairs. The parking space is adjacent to the cottage for easy unloading. We are booking again for next year, thank you Nick and Barbara.
Mrs Davidson August 2019
loved this little place, and the surrounding area was great for exploring with our dogs. Already booked a return visit next year.
Mrs Bacon February 2019
This beautiful location in the heart of the Fal estuary is great for birdwatching and walking. The well equipped and tranquil cottage provided us a good winter regeneration. Probably busier at other times of the year as there's an adjoining caravan club site, but this is also small and peaceful so that wouldn't bother us.
Mr Slaiter December 2018
The Cottage is situated in a location near Truro with great access to the whole of Cornwall. The Cottage itself is set in a quiet and peaceful location with great walks near by. It was totally cosy with all the amenities we required in perfect working order. The hosts were delightful and welcomed us with a cream tea and bottle of fizz for New Year. A lovely welcoming touch. If you love walking and enjoy quiet evenings then this is the place to stay
Mr Hamilton December 2018
Best cooking utensils and bed we've ever had. Cottage was spotless, warm and comfortable. No complaints, just one safety concern. The cooker hood is at head height and has sharp metal corners. We bumped our heads a couple of times, sooner or later someone will get a nasty head wound
Reply from Classic Cottages
Thanks for reviewing Orchard Vean - we're delighted to hear that you had a great time overall and found the cottage warm and comfortable. We're sorry to hear that you had a few encounters with the cooker hood - we'll certainly forward your comments to the owner for their attention. Bryony, Customer Support

We cannot speak highly enough of Orchard Vean, it is perfect for a quiet, peaceful holiday. Situated in a lovely part of Cornwall, it is well located for visiting most areas of the county. From National Trust houses to small beautiful beaches, we found it ideal.
Mrs Caldwell December 2015
This a very nice property in a rural location although within a walking distance of the pub. This allowed easy access to Truro and some of the mining history of the area albeit by car, for the more adventurous it had a number of walks immediately available but due to the fact that we were there end December early January with a lot of rain we were not able to use them all.
Mrs Crawley October 2015
Very clean and well-equipped cottage
Mrs Gray October 2015
One of the nicest cottages I have stayed in. The owners were extremely helpful to me whilst my car was out of action. I would recommend it to my friends and family.
Ms Holt September 2015

Mr Griffiths September 2014
We had a lovely stay, even with it being overcast most of the week. The cottage is very well equipped, comfortable and well located. The Minnack Theatre was an easy day out with Truro, Falmouth and the north coast all quickly reached. The owner was friendly and helpful and the cream tea (with home made jam) was much appreciated! The maps in the cottage were useful for working out where we had walked around Penpol/Point and for days out.
Oh, and if you're wondering - Vean is Cornish for small!
Mrs Grace August 2014
A delightful, well-equipped cottage with wonderful walks with outstanding views of the creek and surrounding area. The location of the cottage makes this an absolute ideal base to explore the Lizard Peninsula to as far as the Scilly Isles. Alternatively if you want to relax and kick-back this cottage offers a holiday location that the weather can not spoil.

The location was perfect. Close to major towns of Falmouth and Truro and the south and north Cornwall coasts. There are good walks from the cottage and excellent pubs and restaurants to suit every style and budget within easy reach. Mr Macarthur August 2013
it was a lovely place with great accomodation and welcome people
Mrs Dyehouse July 2013
A beautiful location in a wooded valley. Stunning coastal and river walks. Food at Instow 'The Boathouse' was gorgeous and a stunning evening location. Falmouth had wonderful restaurants and Harbour View and Rick Stein were well worth the money. Lovely shopping in Falmouth great harbour. Busy in Truro but worth the visit. We ate at local pubs and though they were ok would not necessarily go again they were convenient. Trelissick Gardens well worth the visit but go early or else meet the crowds. A great cottage everything you could want is there even shower gel, a barbecue, washing materials etc etc but we didnt find an apple corer!!!! Thanks for a great holiday. Pity our camera was stolen when we got home not a photo of our lovely stay.

Mrs Baulsom July 2013
This HAS to be the best equipped self catering cottage in the West Country!! We want to tell EVERYONE to try it...............and then, we want to keep it to ourselves because if we can't book it again next year, due to popular demand, then we're going to be disappointed! So, please, just don't book EVERY week there, as we are definitely going again next year!!!! Our dogs LOVED it, but you might want to consider fencing off the part where they can escape, thus preventing me (mouth almighty!!!) screaming for them to get back & disturbing other caravan residents...............HUGE apologies! Bit of a dead spot for mobile/laptop reception, but, is that really such a bad thing? There actually WAS life before mobile phones!!!!!!!!!!! Hands up who remembers that!!!
Mr Hollamby March 2013
Very nice quiet location offering excellent accommodation. A good base to tour from or a nice place to just chill out!
Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed in this cottage, with the few exceptions stated in our Review Guidelines.
