Danny Cottage is a beautiful Grade II Listed, 16th Century timber-framed thatched cottage situated in a rural position on the edge of Alfriston village. Purchased from the National Trust it's in the most fantastic location; perfect for exploring South Downs National Park.
Step into this 'olde worlde' cottage and you will be welcomed with many original features including brick floors, exposed walls and quirky beams (some low). The large sitting-room with snug has a brick fireplace complete with wood-burner; perfect for those chilly winter evenings and enough room for entertaining.
The farmhouse kitchen is fully equipped and has enough seating for six guests. There is a stable-door through which you can sometimes see the neighbouring ponies grazing in the paddock during the summer months.
The large garden leads onto an orchard and meadow where you can enjoy countryside views across the valley and Berwick Church. It's the perfect place for entertaining and enjoying a barbecue.
Danny Cottage is only a 15 minute drive to the Sussex coast and surrounded by footpaths including The South Downs Way, making it perfect for ramblers, dog walkers and cyclists. The historic village of Alfriston sits next to the banks of the Cuckmere River at the foot of the beautiful South Downs and is one of the oldest villages in Sussex. It is home to the Clergy House (which was the first ever property bought by the National Trust) and St Andrew's Church known as 'the Cathedral of the Downs'.
There are so many other places to visit locally including Drusillas Zoo Park known as one of the best small zoos in Europe, or visit Charleston, the home of the artists Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell (sister of Virginia Woolf). Walk around The Long Man of Wilmington or perhaps indulge in some retail therapy or a spot of lunch in the County Town of Lewes.
You can also take in an opera at the Glyndebourne Festival and enjoy a picnic in the grounds or dine in one of the on-site restaurants. There is so much to see and do in this beautiful part of the country.
