Trefusis Lodge is just outside the delightfully pretty waterside village of Flushing, across the Penryn River from bustling maritime Falmouth.
This lovely semi-detached Victorian cottage has beautiful stone-mullioned windows and spacious rooms, and a walled courtyard garden offering sheltered outdoor space. With two popular pubs, a harbourside cafe and a foot ferry linking the village to Falmouth, this is a wonderful location.
The owners live along the drive and, with young children of their own, are extremely welcoming to families and happy for children to use their outdoor play equipment and toys.
With Little Trefusis (1199) just down the driveway, family groups or sets of friends can happily holiday together. Keen gardeners can explore the beautifully landscaped grounds of this private estate, and a pathway through the private woodland which leads to a little shingle and sand beach.
The owners are fully committed to future sustainability and have installed solar panels in their orchard and a biomass heating system which provides much of the Estate's needs.
Trefusis Lodge is set within the grounds of Trefusis House, a wonderful example of Victorian Gothic architecture and home to the Trefusis family since the 12th Century. The house has been used three times to film German adaptations of Rosamund Pilcher's renowned Cornwall-based novels.
The current young owners are slowly and sympathetically updating the estate and its properties, with Trefusis Lodge the latest to have been refurbished so it now provides wonderfully comfortable accommodation for both families and those without children.
The sitting-room has tall stone-mullioned windows, a comfortable sofa and chairs, and well-stocked bookshelves, a lovely place to relax. The separate dining-room has a wood-burner, perfect for cosy meals whatever the weather. A door from here leads out to the cobbled courtyard and small lawn, enclosed by a high stone wall so safe for children and pets. The three bedrooms provide ample accommodation for guests, with space in the single room or master bedroom for a travel cot. The owners are happy to provide all necessary baby and toddler equipment on request.
This is a wonderfully tranquil location, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There are ample opportunities for walking in the area, with a picturesque walk around the headland linking Flushing to Mylor Yacht Harbour, where dinghies, kayaks and canoes can be hired. Lovely Cornish gardens at Glendurgan, Trebah and Trelissick are a delight to explore locally and the Eden Project and Heligan Gardens are a little further afield. Perfect for families, Trefusis Lodge is also available to couples at a discounted rate out of the main season.
