Set above the sleepy riverside village of Golant, Treetops has superb panoramic views over the tidal River Fowey where boats bob on their moorings in summer and wading birds feast on the mudflats at low tide. Almost all rooms in this contemporary, single-storey property look out towards the water and a wide glass-walled balcony to the front means the view can be enjoyed from both inside and out. The hub of the home is the big open plan living-room with a wonderful, double height kitchen-area, a dining-area and a comfortable sitting-area with floor to ceiling windows. There is a village pub, riverside walks and a sheltered inner harbour where canoes, small dinghies and kayaks can be launched at high tide.
Treetops offers flexible accommodation for families or two couples; there are two double bedrooms and a small single room (although only four guests are accommodated) so teenage children or friends can have separate rooms. There is a family bathroom with a claw-foot bath and a shower-room with walk-in shower, both with LED lit mirrors. There are solar panels on the roof to provide hot water, oak flooring and high quality oak doors, and under-floor heating throughout. Outside, there is a gravelled sitting-area, a barbecue-area and terraced beds abundantly planted with mature shrubs and low level alpines, plus parking for two cars right outside, a real bonus in this small village. The tranquil location means that often the only sounds to be heard are birdsong, so Treetops is a wonderful place for those looking for rest and relaxation. Golant is set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with footpaths winding along riverbanks and the pretty sailing town of Fowey just a couple of miles away. There are beaches at Fowey, Par and Polkerris and several renowned restaurants within five miles. The small historic port of Charlestown (which features in Poldark) has tall ships tied up in the harbour and a shipwreck museum to explore. Garden lovers will enjoy the Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan, both within half an hour's drive, and the ancient stannary town of Lostwithiel, known as the antiques' capital of Cornwall, has an intriguing selection of antiques and vintage shops, and regular antiques auctions. With so much on hand this beautiful part of Cornwall begs to be explored, and Treetops is a perfect base from which to start.
