Hope Cottage
1768 is no longer with usIf you were looking for cottages like Hope Cottage, how about trying these:
Hope Cottage is unique. Directly above the slip for the Lower Ferry (see photograph), which crosses the river from Dartmouth to Kingswear (operating between 7am and 11pm), is a row of cottages. One of these, Hope Cottage (with the blue front door), is reached through a gate and along a walkway. Only a wall separates the house from the ferry slip with Bayards Cove beyond. Formerly the Marine Tavern, Hope Cottage is now a stylish home. Inside, the nautical theme is immediately apparent, with maritime artefacts and paintings. The first floor sitting-room has simple cream decoration brightened by colourful rugs, cushions and artwork. Both this room and the kitchen/diner have window seats to enjoy views of the river activities, Dartmouth Castle and the sea beyond. On the second floor are three bedrooms, all with a river outlook, and two bathrooms. The master bedroom is gorgeous with the reflection of the water playing on the ceiling. Although there is no garden, with these views it is not necessary as there is always something to see. Dartmouth’s interesting shops, restaurants and galleries are within walking distance and the South West Coast Path runs in front of the cottage.
