Tucked along a country lane in a woodland setting, yet close to the sheltered coves and bays of the south Cornish coast, Restormel Cottage sets the scene for your luxury country holiday with family, friends and your much loved pooch. Formerly the entrance lodge to Restormel Manor Estate, behind the impressive exterior of this 17th Century cottage is an elegant escape full of traditional character and handsome interiors, creating a little sanctuary of peace and calm with a massive dose of welcome.

Begin your days enjoying hearty breakfasts in the country-style kitchen, served up on the pretty red and white striped Cornishware but as you're on holiday, why not take the short stroll up the lane to the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery where culinary delights are served up for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea - you're in for a treat. Outside the pretty garden puts on an impressive show whatever the season, inviting you to fire up the barbecue and take your meals outside in the sheltered paved courtyard.

The beautiful sitting-room has relaxed comfy sofas gathered around the open fire and shelves full of books, films and board games for your entertainment and for further entertainment guests have use of the wonderful leisure facilities at the Manor Estate. Accessed either by car or on foot via the woodland walk, there's an indoor heated pool, sauna, tennis court and children's play area for your amusement - how special is that.

Set only a mile from the ancient stannary town of Lostwithiel, which has a good selection of places to eat and drink and independent shopping, there are woodland walks and countryside rambles to discover right on your doorstep. Head through the Estate over to the magical ruins of Restormel Castle (English Heritage), with commanding views across the Fowey Valley it's a wonderful spot for a picnic.

Hire paddleboards and kayaks from Golant and make your way up the creek towards the charming village of Lerryn, stopping off for a scrummy ice-cream on the village green. Ramblers will enjoy the still green waters of Pont Pill, along the Hall Walk, a walk of exceptional beauty through woodland and creek and with striking views of Fowey Harbour.

For some fun on two wheels there are cycling trials through Lanhydrock Estate and Cardinham Woods and for a gentler ride the Camel Trail follows an old railway line from Bodmin Moor out to Padstow on the north coast. Having discovered the nearby Nursery, garden lovers will delight at the renowned Eden Project or the three acre water and woodland garden at Marsh Villa and during the summer weeks lose yourself amongst the bright flowers in the Sunflower Trail, near St Austell.
