Escape to the breathtaking beauty of the Kyle of Durness in the Scottish Highlands at this exquisite hunting lodge. Nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Northern Sutherland, this magnificent estate offers captivating views of the adjacent estuary and the surrounding mountains with unrivalled tranquility. Whatever the occasion, this exceptional eight bed, eight bath/shower room property offers guests the opportunity to experience this unique location in luxurious style.

The entrance hall with its original panelling sets the tone for the rest of the lodge. As you make your way into the sitting and dining-area the fabulous location opens up in front of you. Panoramic views of the sea estuary, the Kyle of Durness, the local farmland and the mountains beyond can be enjoyed from the large windows, many with window seats, binoculars are a must to spot a bird or two.

The first sitting-room has plenty of space for the whole family to gather and is spacious enough to find a quiet corner to read a good book. A warming wood-burner is a feature in the second sitting-room and the bar is the perfect place to enjoy an evening tipple. The dining-room has a magnificent dining-table to seat 18, there is even an electric organ for a family sing-song.

Explore further and you will find a cinema room with a large screen TV, a spacious children's playroom filled with games, books and a large TV, the children will have hours of fun. The impressive library/games-room with its walls of books and French windows leading out onto the patio boasts a full-size snooker table and dart board and faces the amazing view of the Kyle. Enjoy a spot of relaxation in the sauna and massage room. There really is something for everyone at Cape Wrath Lodge.

The tastefully decorated, semi-professional kitchen is extensively equipped, for cooking en famille or bringing in an outside chef. Including numerous ovens, a walk-in fridge and two dishwashers, there is everything you could possibly need. We highly recommend the locally owned Spar Grocery in Durness. This village shop is well stocked to provide everything you could possibly need, plus fresh meat and fish and orders can be placed prior to arrival. Fresh oysters can be purchased from the oyster farm located in the Kyle.

The grand staircase and galleried landing leads to the individually designed bedrooms. There is one bedroom and en suite on the ground floor and six bedrooms with en suite facilities on the first floor. There is a further bedroom on the second floor, this room shares the en suite shower-room with bedroom 7, which is located on the first floor (access to the en suite is through bedroom 7).

There are ample cots and highchairs for babies. Dogs are also very welcome. There are outside washing facilities and outdoor kennels. There is safe cycle storage for whatever equipment you choose to bring.

To the east of the Kyle, in the Durness area, past Kinlochbervie to Scourie and Lochinver, there are many beautiful and uncrowded beaches and coves to visit. Licences to fish for sea trout and salmon are easily obtained and fishing from the banks of the hill lochs is free.

Take a trip to the Craft Village to see the various small local craft shops. Sango Mhor and Sango Beg, with their north facing beaches of golden sand and crashing waves, and Smoo Cave, a dramatic and spectacular sea cave set into limestone cliffs, are well worth a visit. The Danish ceramist, Lotte Glob, has created an amazing showroom and garden at Laid village. Fascinating geology walks are available with Bjorn Hardarson.

Cape Wrath Lighthouse is the furthest north west point on the UK mainland and can be visited by boat across the Kyle, then experience a slow drive in a minibus down the old road; well worth a visit. For those who come to walk, the Scottish 'right to roam' means the hills all around are free to walkers.

If you are lucky, you may see golden and sea eagles, puffins, oystercatchers, otters and many other small, migrant birds. At all times of year, the area has stunning sunsets. In the summer the days are very long, with the sun glistening on the Kyle far into the evening and the sky staying light all night to the north. In the winter months, this landscape of sea and mountains is particularly beautiful when snow falls. On clear frosty nights in the autumn, winter and spring, there is every chance you will see the Northern Lights from the doorstep!
