Right in the heart of this pretty conservation village you will find this contemporary inspired cottage with plenty of history. Within walking distance of Lowther Castle and Gardens, the cottage was built in 1770 for the first Earl of Lonsdale by the renowned architect Robert Adam. A traditional sandstone cottage, it is in a quiet and peaceful setting yet only a few miles from all that the Lake District National Park has to offer. Surrounded by gorgeous countryside just waiting to be explored and being dog-friendly, you are welcome to bring along your four-legged friend to share your adventures.

From the moment you arrive you will feel totally at home. The handy hallway is just the place to leave your muddy boots and dog leads after a walk on the Estate to the historic and magical castle. The cosy sitting-room is warm and inviting especially when the wood-burner is crackling and giving out a gentle flickering light, making this a cottage for all seasons. Stretch out on the large and comfy corner sofa, put your feet up and savour some time away from the stresses of everyday life. The charming kitchen is stylish and well-equipped, gather the family around the table to plan tomorrow's outings or cook a romantic meal for two, the choice is yours. Head upstairs to the two delightful bedrooms both with crisp white linen and fluffy duvets, one overlooking the communal lawns and one with pretty views of the wood beyond. One bedroom has a king-size bed and the second has a cosy double bed which can also be made up as twins for children. The upstairs landing houses the Xbox for some gaming fun and a sofa, and there is a spacious family bathroom with a bath to soak tired legs or relax with a glass of something bubbly, why not add some soothing bubbles to the bath too.

Take a step outside and to the rear you will find a secluded patio where you can sit and dine al fresco from dawn until dusk. The boot-room leading from the patio is great for storing cycles and houses the freezer, washing machine and tumble-drier. To the front of the cottage is a large lawned communal area with pathways leading to the castle a mile away. You have everything you need at Lowther Castle Cottage including Cumbria and the Lake District close by, you'll love it.

Being situated on the Lowther Estate your first stop should be the castle with its amazing ruins, gardens, cafe and brilliant playpark for the children. It is a most intriguing attraction and only a short drive or a mile walk from the cottage. Of course, the lakes are close by with fantastic views, water activities, artisan shopping and a great place for foodies.

Ullswater is closest and perfect for a day's exploring with individual shops and great places to eat. Penrith has a historic castle and much more or take a trip to Aira Force a 65-foot waterfall. All the family will love the Lakeland Birds of Prey Centre and maybe even fly a bird of prey. The magical Eden Valley is complemented by a wide choice of walking, cycling, water sports, sailing and fishing. For those of a less energetic nature hop on a sedate cruise around Ullswater on the Ullswater steamer and while away a couple of hours just admiring the scenery.

Put on your hiking boots and meander along part of Hadrian's wall, walkers are spoilt for choice with hills and fells a plenty. Take a gentle stroll or challenge yourself to Shap Fells, Lune Gorge and Hellvellyn.

A short drive away are the bustling towns of Ambleside, Grasmere and Windemere. All very popular with a wealth of visitor attractions and perfect for days out. A stay at Lowther Castle Cottage will delight you in so many ways, with so much to do and discover this cottage is a perfect base for an adventurous getaway.
