This gorgeous Victorian double-fronted village house is set in the heart of the pretty fishing village of Portscatho with the beach, harbour, shops and galleries all within five minutes’ walk. Beautifully updated but retaining many original features, Hillside House offers all the luxuries of the 21st Century combined with the elegance of a traditional house. On the ground floor are two sitting-rooms and a fabulous kitchen/dining/family-room where French doors open out to a rear patio. Upstairs, six spacious bedrooms – all en suite – offer ample accommodation for large family gatherings or groups of friends holidaying together. Set back from the road with a spacious patio enclosed by mature shrubs for privacy, this is the perfect spot for outdoor meals and drinks in the sun.
Hillside House is simply lovely, with plenty of space for large groups to spread out. The entrance porch leads into the hall with sitting-rooms leading off on either side. One has an ornamental wood-burner and both are furnished with comfortable sofas and window seats looking out over the front patio. The hub of the house is the kitchen/dining/family-room, where cream painted kitchen units, black granite work surfaces, a big range cooker and two fridges (perfect for chilling that holiday wine!) provide everything necessary for catering to big groups. There is a big wooden dining-table and a sitting-area with sofas and a large TV, plus doors out to the enclosed patio. A separate utility-room houses a washing machine, tumble-drier and storage for body boards and wetsuits. A useful ground floor shower-room augments the six bath and shower-rooms that are en suite to the lovely bedrooms upstairs. This is a truly wonderful place to stay, and with beaches at Porthcurnick (and the famous Hidden Hut beach cafe), Pendower and Carne, great dining opportunities at the nearby Driftwood and Rosevine hotels with their outstanding restaurants and the Idle Rocks and Hotel Tresanton in nearby St Mawes offering outstanding dining and superb sea views, you will never be tied to the kitchen sink! Locally there are galleries selling original Cornish art, farmers’ markets and renowned Cornish gardens to explore. The nearby King Harry Ferry crosses the River Fal giving easy access to the pretty Cathedral City of Truro, maritime Falmouth and the dramatic cliffs and sandy surfing beaches of the north coast, while the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are just a few miles away.
