Whether you stay in one of the elegant and spacious apartments inside the privately owned Tiverton Castle, which celebrated its 900th anniversary in 2006, or in Castle Barton or Castle Lodge elsewhere within the grounds, you can imagine yourself in another life. The apartments are found in the main Castle building, two approached by a 17th Century well staircase (you can rest on the way up!). Inside the Grade I Listed Castle walls, it is hard to believe that you are in the centre of the old market town of Tiverton. Part of the 14th Century castle is open to the public two afternoons a week in summer and fishing can be arranged in the River Exe which flows through the grounds. Guests can explore not only the Castle, but also Dartmoor, Exmoor and both the north and south Devon coasts, all within easy driving distance.

Upper South Court is on the second floor at the top of the staircase and has views to the hills beyond neighbouring St Peter’s Church, with its melodious clock chiming out the quarter hours. All of the rooms have sloping ceilings and exposed beams and benefit from comfort cooling (a form of air conditioning) for those hot summer days. *A cot is not provided, please bring your own travel cot.
