Topsails is a welcoming bolthole a stone's throw from the unspoilt pebbled beach at Beer, a traditional fishing village in a sheltered bay on the beautiful east Devon World Heritage Jurassic Coast. An internal staircase leads to this little second floor retreat, with its cheerful seaside theme, bright open plan kitchen/diner, cosy sitting-room and comfortable double bedroom. The apartment building is a BT WiFi Hotspot, so you can connect to the internet during your stay if you want to look up places to visit or book somewhere special for a meal. However, the charm of this little place is truly timeless, as are the other seaside towns and villages that stretch along this stunning coastline in both directions.

Stroll down the road in moments to the lovely beach, which is great for walks all year round, but also has a popular seasonal cafe and classic striped deckchairs and painted beach huts to hire in the summer. Watch the historic lug sail boats and buy some absolutely fresh fish from the beach-side stall. Back in the little town, there are galleries and gift shops to browse in, and a great choice of places to eat. A bit further afield try the Hix Oyster & Fish House overlooking the Cobb in Lyme Regis or the River Cottage Canteen in Axminster. You might even like to book yourself onto a mini-course at River Cottage HQ. If you want to leave the car, you can take a bus ride all along the Jurassic Coast – get a bird's eye view of the coast from the top deck. As well as being close to the Dorset border, it is an easy drive into south Somerset for a great choice of National Trust houses to visit – Montacute, Barrington Court and Lytes Carey are all within a stone's throw of each other.
