Found in deepest rural Devon, the village of Hollocombe was formerly part of the Earl of Portsmouth’s estate. The Earl commissioned the building of the village church, St Michael and All Angels, in the 1890s. The church was deconsecrated in the 1970s, and the current Owner has done much to improve the property since then, including the addition of several stained glass windows. These are particularly attractive, and the lack of curtains on these windows allows them to be fully appreciated. A feeling of calm and tranquility surrounds this lovely Victorian building, and as many of the original features as possible have been retained. Inside, as would be imagined, there is plenty of space and light. Downstairs is the large, comfortable sitting-room, a well-equipped kitchen/breakfast-room and a formal dining-room. The pretty bedrooms are all on the first floor, the master bedroom being exceptionally large. Set in an enclosed garden (there is no graveyard!), there is also a sunny patio, but there are several steps up and down and a drop on one side of the house. Due to this, the property is regretfully unsuitable for young children.
