When you stay in these elegant and spacious apartments inside privately owned Tiverton Castle, which celebrated its 900th anniversary in 2006, you can imagine yourself in another life. Once inside the Castle walls, you will find it hard to believe that you are right in the centre of the thriving old market town of Tiverton. Try your hand at croquet on the lawn, or fish in the River Exe which flows through the Castle’s beautiful grounds. The Castle has private salmon and sea-trout fly fishing rights and camp-fires are possible if fishing in the evening. Part of the 14th Century Grade I Listed Castle (once lived in by a Plantagenet princess) is open to the public two afternoons a week in summer. Guests can explore not only the Castle, but also Dartmoor, Exmoor and both the north and south Devon coasts, which are all within easy driving distance. There are also many sports and leisure amenities close by and several good restaurants within walking distance in Tiverton itself. The apartments have been awarded Four Stars under the VisitBritain rating scheme, and are found in the main Castle building; three in the 1860s wing and one forming part of South Court, built in the late 17th Century. All are approached through a turret door and the first and second floor apartments via a magnificent 17th Century well staircase (there are plenty of places to rest on the way up!).
