The Dartmoor town of Ashburton is under five minutes from the A38. Renowned for its antique shops, some good pubs and restaurants, Ashburton is in Dartmoor National Park, yet with the South Hams beaches under half an hour’s drive away. Just off the town centre, this Grade II Listed, terraced, Georgian town house has steps leading from a lawn and car park (please take care with children around the covered pond) up to a walled patio. A sun-trap for most of the day, there is room to dine al fresco, use the hot tub, relax in the sauna or take a dip in the open-air heated pool (available from 5th May to 22nd September – open from 10am to 8pm only, please supervise children at all times). Whilst maintaining a Georgian facade, inside The Gathering is totally modern. The Owners are keen art collectors and display prints and paintings by local artists around the property (some of which are for sale). The striking kitchen has wood block worktops, white units and every modern appliance. A double range cooker will encourage those of a culinary bent and huge American-style fridge/freezers have plenty of space for holiday treats. The dining-room is large enough for everyone to enjoy a meal and there are two games-rooms (one with a pool table and one with table football, both coin-operated), as well as a television-room on the ground floor. The sitting-room is furnished with black and red leather sofas, zebra print rugs and funky wall lights, as well as a widescreen home entertainment centre. A local catering company can provide a range of meals and hampers (with 48 hours’ notice) at a reasonable cost.
