Now more than ever we understand the importance of supporting and preserving our precious wildlife by restoring and preserving habitats. Over the last century thousands of species-rich meadows, hedgerows, and established ponds have been lost, losing nature’s complex connections on the way. With wildlife struggling to survive and habitats shrinking, now is the time to act.
The team at Dorset Wildlife Trust is working hard to fundraise for the Wildlife Recovery Appeal – Kingcombe’s Wild Energy, and donations to the appeal will support the planting of trees, pond restoration, creating meadows and re-wilding rivers. There will also be funds for Conservation Officers to work with farmers and landowners to advise on managing land with wildlife in mind. Donations will give rare and common wildlife the chance to breed, feed, and move freely, spreading out over vast areas of West Dorset. At Classic Cottages, we're delighted to support the Wildlife Recovery Appeal with our recent donation of £500.
Set in 450 acres, Kingcombe Visitor Centre offers a gateway to nature with wildlife-friendly gardens, orchards, a bird hide and boardwalk alongside the beautiful River Hooke. A myriad of walking trails wind through the reserve and you are also welcome to wander freely into the wider nature reserve, taking care not to disturb wildlife or grazing animals. The visitor centre has leaflets to guide you around the reserve while a café offers refreshments. A visit will fascinate all nature lovers and the team who work here are always happy to answer any questions.
