What a superb family get-together house this is, seamlessly mixing the ecclesiastical soberness of the original Victorian stone-built chapel with a stunning modern glass-walled, sedum-roofed extension with far reaching countryside views. Housing a split-level open plan kitchen/family-room, this light-filled space is the perfect place to gather throughout the day. Two huge sliding glass doors open onto a stone-paved dining terrace facing south over the three acre meadow, where paths are mown through the native grasses offering plenty of opportunity for meandering walks, bird spotting and exploring. A huge second sitting/dining-room with high arched windows, original parquet flooring and vaulted ceiling provides ample space for relaxing and the light, contemporary, whitewashed bedrooms and sleek minimalist bathrooms will accommodate the whole family. Bofarnel Chapel is close to the picturesque sailing town of Fowey on the south coast and only ten miles from wonderful Rock, Padstow and Polzeath on the north coast, so ideally placed for exploring. The National Trust's beautiful Lanhydrock Estate is a couple of miles away, where the house and grounds are open to the public with woodland walks to explore and an amazing network of cycle trails suitable for all ages and abilities (off-road enthusiasts will love the rougher trails!). So pack your walking boots, bicycles and surf boards and head to this gorgeous house for a truly wonderful family holiday.
Bofarnel Chapel has well thought-out accommodation with a utility-room just off the entrance hall offering extra space for boots. There is a ground floor double bedroom and cloakroom, ideal for those wanting a little peace or privacy from the rest of the group. The big sitting/dining-room occupies the rest of the original chapel's ground floor, with a tiny snug tucked away at one end for those who like to read in peace. The fabulous new glass-walled extension is through a deceptively unassuming doorway, with the kitchen-area on the upper level where minimalist 'touch-open' flat-fronted kitchen units and quartz work surfaces hide all the appliances and storage space you could wish for. Steps lead down to the sitting-area with a sofa and chairs set before the huge sliding doors. The stone-paved terrace wraps around the room, with an outdoor dining-area on one side, a seating area on the other side and steps leading down to the gently sloping three acre meadow. A flat area away from the house has an in-ground trampoline and a football pitch complete with goalposts, so there's endless fun to be had for all budding Olympic gymnasts and Premier League-aspiring (but currently undiscovered!) players. Upstairs, the landing-area has doors to a double bedroom and family bathroom while a glass-walled gallery looks down to the sitting/dining-room below and leads to a compact bunk-room and a double bedroom with its own en suite bathroom. The master bedroom is also accessed from the landing, up a shallow flight of steps. This room has lovely views over the meadow and countryside and an en suite wet-room with under-floor heating to keep your toes toasty warm. Decorated throughout in white and shades of pale silvery grey, the house has a wonderfully restful feel, encouraging relaxation and lingering meals together. Set just seven miles from the picturesque yachting haven of Fowey and south coast beaches, and only a 40 minute drive from the north coast surfing beaches, Bofarnel Chapel is perfect for country lovers and water babies alike, with secure storage for bikes and garden games. Sailing, yachting and boat trips abound around Fowey, Mevagissey and Looe to the south and spectacular cliff walks and renowned surf spots on the north coast from Bude down to St Agnes, Chapel Porth and Porthtowan. For the energetic, there are bike trails and and more in nearby Cardinham woods, with walks aplenty from the house. Gardeners will love the nearby Lost Gardens of Heligan, Eden Project and the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery which not only sells a first-class selection of plants but has an award-winning cafe as well, serving delicious locally-sourced food. (Please note the trampoline and goal posts are not available from beginning of November to end of March).
