Surrounded by the wooded countryside of the National Trust's Penrose Estate and just over a mile from the pretty harbour village of Porthleven, nestled on a hillside not far from the Owner's house, you will find The Old Sand School. This delightful semi-detached cottage is not only comfortable and stylish but also spacious, welcoming and very well-equipped. After a day out exploring or on the beach, what could be better than a spot of al fresco dining in the garden or cuddling up on the sofa in front of the cosy wood-burner. Cook up a treat in the fabulous kitchen or pop down to the harbour as this foodie destination has many great restaurants, pubs and cafes to choose from.
For walkers this location is a real treat as the Penrose Estate features Cornwall's largest natural lake, woodland tracks, stretches of coastline and open parkland to explore and for those wanting more you can join the South West Coast Path at Porthleven to explore the Lizard peninsula with its craggy coves in one direction and St Michael's Mount, Land's End and Sennen Cove in the other. There are family-friendly sandy beaches within easy reach at nearby Gunwalloe, Poldhu, Praa Sands and Perranuthnoe, these all provide lifeguards in season (July to September), as well as many coves and beaches such as Porthleven and Loe Bar which are great for visiting but are not suitable for swimming due to the strong currents. When you need to stock up with supplies there are supermarkets, banks, local shops and pubs to visit in nearby Helston and for local produce the Farmers Market on the first Saturday in every month is well worth a look.
