What a treat! Gypsies Hideaway is an absolute delight. Hidden in its own little meadow providing panoramic views across north Cornwall to the coast, with peace and tranquility in abundance, it’s the perfect romantic escape for two, or for families looking for a fun glamping getaway. Situated down the end of a long bumpy track, not suitable for low slung cars, Gypsies Hideaway gives you more than just a tent or a wagon, it gives you your own little camp. Here you can relive your childhood memories and conjure up some new ones as you lie back in the grass with not a care in the world, sing songs around the camp fire – don’t worry no one will hear you – or simply pass the time away in the old fashioned rocking chair by the wood-burner. It’s the stuff of Little House on the Prairie and Paint your Wagon! Ned and Nelly your faithful bowtop wagons (yes, you have two) are gaily decorated in contrasting styles. As you climb the steps to little Ned, you are greeted with a traditional Romany interior with a richly patterned ceiling and the cutest array of painted cupboards and drawers on top of which sits the small double bed (4ft wide x 6ft long). Across the campfire Nelly offers a brighter interior with a pine-clad ceiling and brightly coloured fabrics. The oversized double bed (6ft wide by 6ft 4in long) can convert into twin beds giving truly versatile accommodation and if it starts to turn a little chilly, fire up the solid fuel stove and snuggle up! Gypsies Hideaway is all about the great outdoors, meals can be cooked up on the barbecue, using fresh herbs from the planters, and enjoyed al fresco in the open-fronted summer-house – which should you need it comes complete with its own wood-burner. But of course all mod-cons are also provided. A light and airy kitchen/dining cabin is conveniently sited between the two wagons and here you will also find the small, but perfectly formed, shower facilities – including an electric shower, WC, wash-basin and heated towel rail. Unfortunately there is no room for a cot, although there is room for a moses basket for a young baby.
If you can possibly relinquish your Romany home for the day you won’t be disappointed as there is much exploring to be done. The dramatic north Cornish coast has so much to offer – stunning coastal walking, miles of golden sandy beaches, foodie gems galore, and terrific waves to ride. If you don’t want to take the car, right at the end of the drive you can pick up The Saints’ Way, a 30 mile trail running coast to coast across the width of Cornwall – don’t try and do it all in one day! And in the nearby market town of Wadebridge, where you can stock up on your provisions or simply linger amongst its great mix of independent shops, you can get on your bike along the Camel Trail to Padstow or Bodmin Moor. But whatever your choice, you know that at the end of the day you can come back and truly relax and unwind at your own, very special little hideaway.
