Just a mile from Maenporth’s sandy beach, beautifully refurbished Rose Cottage is set on the quiet outskirts of Mawnan Smith, a half-mile stroll from the village pub and shops. Trebah and Glendurgan gardens are nearby, the maritime town of Falmouth is a short drive away and watersports are available at Helford Passage, where the coastal footpath crosses the river. Rose Cottage is delightful, its south-facing verandah overlooking the large, sloping enclosed garden which includes a greenhouse and a small unfenced pond (take care with children). The front door opens into the surprisingly spacious sitting-room, where a huge inglenook fireplace houses a wood-burner and a back door opens onto the verandah. A large bay window overlooks the garden in the tastefully furnished dining-room, which also has a wood-burner. This original part of the cottage features typically low ceilings and doorways, three steps leading up into what is now a bright, modern kitchen. Up the steep, turning cottage staircase are two bedrooms and a contemporary bathroom, which includes a luxurious double shower cubicle and separate bath.
