The First Isle of Wight Comic Con

The start of November heralds the start of what will hopefully be a new tradition for the Isle of Wight - Northwood House in Cowes plays host to the very first Isle of Wight Comic Con.

For those that don't know, a 'comic con' is a convention for fans of comics and everything associated. With stalls selling every sort of paraphernalia, presentations, demonstrations, famous people and all things comic-related, most fans like to dress up for the event, showing off their 'Cosplay' skills. Expect to see plenty of interesting attire.

There should be plenty of visitors to the island over the event weekend, with guest appearances from global TV and film stars. Dr Who fans are particularly well catered for, with both Paul McGann and Pearl Mackie on the bill, plus fans of the cult classic, Clerks, may get to meet Brian O'Halloran.

Specific attractions include Virtual Reality demonstrations and interactive exhibitions such as the life-size Star Wars props, panel discussions from your favourite actors and makers, photoshoots with various props and people and gaming tournaments.

There’s plenty of parking at Northwood Park, and a nearby bus service which runs at regular intervals. If you’re coming over from the Mainland for the day, hop on the Red jet from Southampton, and it’s a short walk to Northwood Park from Cowes High Street.

It's definitely one to consider if you're on holiday on the Isle of Wight this November.

Cinemas are everywhere. And can be a great way to dodge a rainy day while you’re on holiday. But if you like places with a dash of character and plenty of good films to go around, you might want to plan a special trip to one of these.
