Kneehigh Theatre’s Asylum returns to Cornwall

Cornwall Cultural Highlight: Theatre, music, wonder… in a tent!

Kneehigh’s Asylum returns to Cornwall - The Lost Gardens of Heligan, 30th August – 28th September

The Kneehigh Asylum is unique theatrical experience under canvas. It’s back in Cornwall for a fourth year, this time at the magical Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Internationally celebrated Cornish theatre company Kneehigh will present their brand new show, a radical new version of The Beggar’s Opera busting with wit, wonder and weirdness.

The Asylum is Kneehigh’s purpose built theatre tent, which has been described as 'a place pre-disposed to magic'. This new partnership with The Lost Gardens of Heligan means visitors can wander the gardens for free before the show, or spend longer exploring with a combined garden and show ticket.

The Heligan kitchens will be offering a delicious seasonal menu created especially for the event, using local produce, much of which is sourced from the gardens themselves. In the Asylum tent, there’ll be live music, pop-up events, and the legendary Asylum bar. This is not just an ordinary theatre show: it’s a great night out, and sure to be a highlight of your trip.

Kneehigh’s brand new show is called Dead Dog in a Suitcase (and other love songs). Written by Carl Grose and directed by Kneehigh founder Mike Shepherd, the show also features music composed by Charles Hazlewood. An extraordinary Kneehigh cast of actor musicians will shoot, hoot and shimmy their way through this twisted morality tale of our times…by turns shocking, hilarious, heartfelt and absurd!

Kneehigh have enjoyed huge critical success this year with a UK and international tour of Tristan & Yseult, and are also touring their much loved stage version of Brief Encounter to Australia and the US. This completely new show will be anarchic, funny, radical and rude, in the true spirit of this award winning Cornish company.

Earlybird tickets went on sale on 17th March, with a combined ticket to both the gardens and the show costing just £25 until 1st May.
