Easter activities in Dorset

Find something to do on your Dorset Easter holiday with our list of family events going on across the county in April. From egg hunts to historical archery days, keep kids of all ages entertained while you enjoy some well deserved time off.

School holidays away from home make for brilliant family fun. Pack the kids up with plenty of games to play in the car and head to Dorset. Spend your break relaxing at your pretty holiday cottage, making the most of family time together or get out into the county and visit places you’ve always wanted to see. Try your hand at new things with some of the events on our list like archery or following trails through the countryside.

 

1st to 2nd April: Storytelling for families at Corfe Castle

Learn all about the women imprisoned in Corfe Castle by King John. John's wife and niece, and daughters of the Scottish king were once locked up here at the same time. Performed by a professional storyteller three times throughout the day, kids’ imaginations will be captured with this retelling of historical goings on at the castle.

 

8th to 23rd April: Kingston Lacy Cadbury Easter egg hunt

Hunt high and low to find the clues left by the Easter bunny in the grounds of Kingston Lacy. An eggciting extra to your visit and a great way to get the kids outside in the fresh air.

 

8th April: Meet the Taunton Garrison at Forde Abbey

Step back in time and meet the seventeeth-century soldiers who fought against the rebel uprising of 1685 in Somerset. Watch as they demonstrate weaponry, drills and musket firing. Something a little more hands on to get kids of all ages interested in the history of Somerset and Forde Abbey.

 

8th to 30th April: The Great Brownsea Storybook Adventure Trail

Adventure across Brownsea Island discovering new twists to old tales, introducing children to new sides of the stories they know and love. It all starts with a boat ride from Poole Harbour

 

8th to 13th April: Corfe Castle hosts the Wolfshead Bowmen

Corfe Castle brings the past to life with a medieval encampment, archery demonstrations and talks and a chance to have a go at shooting your own arrow. The Wolfshead Bowman will be on hand leading the events and answering any questions you might have.

9th April: The World of Peter Pan at Nothe Fort in Weymouth

There’ll be firing canons and pirates galore at this family friendly event. Pack your cutlass and join the battle, make sure you choose the right side. With bouncy castles, face painting, treasure hunts and more, the World of Peter Pan continues to be a popular family event at Nothe Fort.

 

14th to 17th April: Corfe Castle Cadbury Easter egg hunt

Find the clues left by the Easter bunny and unscramble them to win your own Cadbury chocolate egg. Keep little ones entertained at Corfe Castle over Easter weekend.

 

14th to 17th April: Brownsea Island Easter fun

Join in with the Easter activities at Brownsea Island. Find something to do for all the family including a chocolatey Easter trail to follow.

 

14th to 17th April: Forde Abbey’s Alice in Wonderland Easter trail

Rediscover your childhood dreams with the White Rabbit and the Mad Hatter leading you down the rabbit hole. The gardens at Forde Abbey will be transformed into a magical world of elegant tea parties, secret doors and oversized plants littered with strange characters. 

 

14th to 23rd April: Medieval archery presented by Pike and Shot at Corfe Castle

Get stuck in to medieval warfare with archery displays, combat demonstrations, longbow talks and have a go archery sessions. Learn about the civil war between England and Normandy, how Corfe was an English stronghold and the eventual siege of the castle. A historical day to be had by all the family.
