Places to Go

The Tarka Trail

Everything you could want from a long walk. It makes up the Devon coast section of a vast network of walkways and cycle routes devised by the charity Sustrans - you can cycle coast to coast on these tarmac'd ex-railway paths, but this route is plenty enough. Thirty-odd miles of easy cycling will build up more than the average number of flies in your teeth and you don't want to ruin your apetite for the obligatory pub lunch. Spit them out at the many designated viewing points or artfully carved benches, helpfully dotted around at enough places to avoid your legs start aching.

Make sure you stop and take in the views

Find out more about the Tarka Trail route and directions on the Sustrans Web site.

If you want to whizz along, you best hire a bike else you'll never make it to the end in one day.

Save your legs but see the sights with a 39 mile ride on the Tarka Line Railway.
