The time of year when doggy restrictions come into play is from Easter to October, when only a limited number of beaches continue to allow dogs between 8am and 7pm. This can be disappointing for many dog owners but fear not, there are still a number of beautiful beaches available to everyone. We’ve compiled the top 5 dog friendly beaches for Somerset, so that wherever your holiday takes you, your four-legged friend can come too.
Berrow South Beach, Burnham on Sea
With six miles of firm, soft sand, Berrow is great for a walk with your dog. Beware though, sinking sand and deep mud are exposed at low tide.
Watchet Beach, Watchet
Watchet town is fronted by a rocky shore, which stretches out up to half a mile at low tide. There are no dog restrictions, so you can explore together whenever you like.
Porlock Weir Beach, Porlock
With the South West coastpath passing right through Porlock Weir, this is a perfect place to come with your dog.
Brean Beach, Weston-super-Mare
With a walking area just for dogs and their owners, this is a lovely place to get out and about. Visitors should bear in mind the dangers of mudflats though, and take notice of warnings.
Dunster South East, Minehead
Surrounded by local, coastal walks and beautiful scenery, Dunster South East is a gorgeous day out. The beach even has an area designated for dogs, so you both can enjoy all year round.
