School Holiday Dates

As we look forward to the next year, start planning your next holiday with this helpful reminder of school holiday dates in 2019.

Hopefully, your holidays have brought you many happy moments throughout the year: from cosying up by the fire with your significant other for valentine’s after you’ve put the kids to bed to a spirited summer filled with daily beach trips, sandcastles and all the family gathered together. With the start of the new year it’s always nice to look back on all the things you’ve achieved, the people you’ve met and the memories you’ve made so far.

But why not take this moment to start planning your holiday adventures for 2018? School holidays come around faster than you think and once everything’s booked all you’ll have to worry about is the weather. And packing everything into the car. It can be hard to find the perfect holiday cottage but, if you start looking now, you’ll be sure to find something among our gorgeous selection of self catering properties in the South West.

February Half Term – 15th to 24th February

As the days lighten up and daffodils start springing up all over the place, February half term comes along. Take your first holiday of the year to the south and west to take in the early spring sunshine. Blow away the cobwebs with a wander along the coast path in Devon or stay in and storm watch in Cornwall from the comfort of your own couch in a cottage with sea views. The ocean may be a bit too chilly for a dip, definitely one for the brave, but try the next best thing in a property with a pool or a hot tub. Ultimate luxury for a spring break in the south and west.

Easter Holiday – 5th to 28th April

Let the kids run free in the great outdoors of the south and west for their Easter break. There’s so much choice for things to do in March and April because the weather gets so much better. Be sure to pack your wellies though, better to be safe than sorry. There's always something to do in the Easter break including plenty of exciting Easter-themed crafts and activities. If you’re visiting the Somerset coast, fossil hunting is one of our favourite activities. We also love visiting National Trust properties, there’s always something exciting going on in the school holidays. Although Easter brings the start of the warmer weather, it can be a little colder than expected. Stay warm in a beautiful holiday cottage with a fire and find an excuse to get cosy indoors.

May Half Term – 24th May to 2nd June

Fire up the barbecue because summer is on its way (we hope, anyway). Spring Bank holiday is a time to kick back, relax and enjoy the warmer weather. Enjoy the sunshine by getting outdoors at every possible opportunity. Make the most of the heat and go for a cottage with an outdoor swimming pool to splash about in while admiring the wide blue skies. Pack a picnic and head to the beach or find a stunning coastal walk or park to explore for the day.

Summer Holiday – 12th July to 8th September

The big daddy of school holidays. Choose a seaside cottage to admire beautiful golden sands and broad expanses of ocean in the summer sunshine. We all have fond memories of long summers with all of our family, making the most of the great outdoors and fantastic weather. Spend all day every day building sandcastles with the kids, splashing in the sea, even trying some surfing to keep everyone busy. If you want to push the boat out this summer, try something a little different in one of our glamping properties. Kind of like luxury camping, once you stay in one of our beautiful cabins or huts you won’t want to return to a cottage or your own home.

October Half Term – 18th October to 3rd November

The gorgeous colours and cooler weather of Autumn make October half term ideal for long walks with all the family or mix things up and try mountain biking or pony trekking. Dorset has some really beautiful autumnal colours to admire and there’s still plenty to do during half term across the county. With the cooler weather comes an excuse to stay indoors and cosy up with a good book or a fascinating film. Staying in a holiday cottage gives you a home away from home to snuggle up with all the family.

Christmas and New Year break – 20th December to 5th January

Every year, Christmas comes around before you know it. An exciting time of year to spend with family (and eating way too much food) as well as looking forward to the new year. We have plenty of options for Christmas cottages to be whisked away to for 2018. We can't promise skiing but we can guarantee no airport queues and you certainly won't need your passport. If you're celebrating in the south and west, don't forget the champagne. Whether you’re looking for a large cottage to fit in all the family or a tiny bolt hole to just gather your nearest and dearest, there’s definitely a festive den for you.
