What better way to spend a wet and windy day than to take the office dogs out for a beach walk - while the staff get stuck in to litter picking that is. We joined forces with Neil Hembrow of Keep Britain Tidy, to gather some of the plethora of rubbish strewn on a local beach. Booking Office Manager Nicky describes the event:
'What a wonderful day for a beach clean - the sun was shining and the air was fresh and clean down at Church Cove. We were all up for a challenge and we had plenty to get busy with!
On meeting Neil, we were all duly issued with gloves and litter pickers and worked at picking up the mass of rubbish on the beach including flip-flops, dummies, lobster pots, rugs, dirty knickers, wellies, a colostomy bag, and masses of rope and plastic bottles. We were even lucky enough to see several families of maggots living in the seaweed...
The highlight of the day was spotting Simon (our company Owner) walking towards us with ‘supplies’ of some sort. We all got very excited! It turned out to be tea and biscuits and we all agreed it was most welcome (thank you Simon X).
We collected 18 bags of rubbish and carried them up to the farm/toilet block where a collection by the National Trust was organised, we then sat in the car park in the sunshine and had a very tasty pasty, as supplied by Property Manager Pip.
Next stop was the beach opposite the Halzephron Pub and the rubbish here was more spread out, along the cliff and around the rocks. We managed to dodge the waves and came close to getting soaked. We collected 11 bags of rubbish off this beach - not bad for a day’s work.
Back in the office we had rosy cheeks and a sense of satisfaction that we have done our bit to help keep Cornwall’s beaches clean.'
