Stepping back in time at West Northwood Farm
West Northwood Farm, based near St Neot, is owned by Nick and Jenny Hart who have a cottage, West Barn, within the area. West Northwood Farm is interestingly an archaeological site unearthing Bronze Age history.
West Northwood Farm has won the 2018 Cornish Heritage award and the site hosts an archaeological dig. Guests staying at West Barn are welcome to have a tour during their stay which shows the outline of where buildings have stood, parts of which have been excavated in the two professional digs so far. Currently, no dig is taking place due to funding to bring a team in, as it can only be conducted with professional paid experts. Guests can arrange a visit with the owners who can show them around and explain the site.
The dig investigates the Bronze Age life with remains of buildings from 3000 years ago and the dig aims to uncover more about life from that era, to discover where people lived and what they ate. It's a truly fascinating slice of history!
